TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to apply for a non-immigrant O visa while entering Thailand on a visa-exempt entry, but certain requirements must be met. You will need to ensure that you have sufficient funds deposited in your Thai bank account (800,000 THB for retirement or 400,000 THB if married to a Thai citizen or a parent of a Thai child) at least two months prior to applying. Additionally, opening a Thai bank account can be challenging with a visa-exempt entry, and you need to have more than 15 days left on your current stamp to apply for the non-O visa.

People are telling you 800k but that is for a retirement Non-O, the figure is 400k if married to a Thai or parent to a Thai child. Do you have time to get your Non-O before you travel?

The problem you’ll have now is opening a bank account best you apply for the non-o before you come the you should be ok to open and get your funds in
Technically, you don’t covert, you have to apply for the non o visa. Get 800k deposited in your account two months before you apply. Time is of the essence if you’re in country on a visa exempt entry.
There is no requirement for 2 months prior when applying for a Non O from a visa exempt - unless you use the Jomtien office - they are the only office that seems to require that.
