I spend a lot of time in Thailand and I have done border runs travelling as a tourist visa but if I flew out of the country, am I allowed to come back the same day or do I have to stay for 24 hours before I come back?

Here the story of someone, who visited the Immigration Hua Hin and wanted to know, what were the requirements for a 180-days extension of his DTV

You will love the story of his experience

Posted by “Tom Tom“

"I just came back from a visit to the Hua Hin Immigration to have my entry stamp (on a DTV visa) transferred from my old passport to my new passport. So far so good.

Then the lady checking the papers pointed out to me, that since I still have the DTV sticker from the Phnom Penh Thai Embassy, I should always carry the old passport with me. That's perfectly clear so far, too.

Then I asked if I could extend the 180-days stay permit here at Immigration.

She said it's no problem, BUT, and this came a a total surprise, I would have to show proof of a Thai bank account with a deposit of 500,000 THB.

Another officer then approached us while I was trying to explain to the lady that I didn't have a Thai bank account with this kind of deposit, but that the credit was in my German account.

He advised I should just leave Thailand for a short time and come back after a few days. Then this banked money rule would no longer apply to me.

Can anyone confirm this? My extension for another 180 days would be at the beginning of March 2025”

My answer to Tom Tom was as follows:

“If you take a look at the Facebook group “Destination Thailand Visa DTV”, you will notice that there is disagreement and heated debate on this very point.

None of the current DTV holders have applied for an extension at immigration to date, because the earliest date would be shortly before the expiry of the first 180 days for the first wave of DTV, which was introduced on July 15, 2024.

No one can know how the various immigration offices will react to something for which no fixed rules have been issued at all, apart from the usual procedure for the 30-day "touristic extension", which should actually also be applied to the DTV, because the DTV is a tourist-visa class.

There is therefore a heated debate in this group as to whether or not immigration will pull out some fictitious guidelines in the case of a 180-day extension.

You have by now provided a typical example: No immigration officer currently knows with absolute certainty any rules on the extension, because no such rules exist.

So this specific officer pulls out whatever comes to her mind and asks you to provide proof of 500,000 THB again, and this is where it gets really ridiculous, must be in a Thai account?

That's why, before you allow yourself to get invited to ride the carousel, you should do a border run and activate the next 180 days stay permit.

No one at the border will ask you about your account balance, or about health insurance, or how often you go to the toilet

It goes without saying that you have to keep the old invalid passport with the visa sticker - because this is the only proof that you have been issued a DTV. Without presenting this, you will not get a new 180-day "admitted stay" stamp at the border”

Help Needed - Land Crossing

I exited Thailand on a Tourist visa recently. Immigration pulled me aside and said I cannot cross again. I don't know why because I have never entered or exited Thailand by land before and have just one Tourist visa stamp. I had a marriage visa prior but let that expire and hopped on a tourist visa before doing the necessary for the DTV.

I secured my DTV. I have the physical stamp in my passport now.

Does anyone know if I'll have problems crossing by land now that I have a DTV visa in my passport?

I had some say I've been flagged and it matters now that I don't cross by land again but I can't believe it's true unless I was trying for a tourist visa on arrival.

I am facing following situation: I have been on a retirement visa for a few years but want to change it as I will only be in Thailand for a few months per year. I have tried to get the DTV visa which has not yet been approved.

Now I am planning to leave on Jan 8, 2025 and come back 2 days later on a tourist visa which will hopefully grant me a 60 days stay. I am planning then to extent for another 30 days.

I am leaving for Germany around the 28th March but had planned to go to Japan within this 30 days extension time (around 15-25 March).

Or should I not get an extension at all, do a 5 day overstay, pay and come back 10 days on another normal tourist visa before I go to Germany until October.

Is this at all possible?

Hello guys, have a question regarding the border run. I was told that it is impossible to do a border run if the 60-day visa exemption is extended for 30 days, so if someone wants to do a border run and get another 60 days, they must not extend their 60-day visa exemption. Is this true??

Hi, hope you’re all well 🤍 I’m Australian and currently in Chiang Mai on the Tourist Visa (60 days). I would like to apply for a 30 day extension. I was hoping someone could assist me please 🙏

Is it possible to do this all online or do I need to visit an Immigration Office? If I need to do in person:

- which Immigration Office would you recommend?

- can I apply 2 weeks in advance?

- can I make photocopies of passport and take passport photos at the Inmigration Offices?

Thank you so much!

Hi everyone, next month I’ll be traveling to Thailand with a tourist visa, but I’m interested in applying for the Digital Nomad DTv Visa once I’m there. I have a few questions and would really appreciate if someone with experience could help me out:

1. Is it possible to apply for the DTv Visa easily from within Thailand while on a tourist visa?

2. If not, would it be possible to go to a nearby country, like Cambodia, and apply for it from there?

Thank you so much in advance for any advice or experiences you can share!

I need to be out of my rental here in the US by the end of the month and I’m not sure if I will get approved by then. Does anyone know if it is OK to fly to Thailand and arrive on a tourist visa, then exit the country and re-enter to activate my DTV Visa upon reentry? I was able to do this when I traveled to Indonesia with no issues. If its a risk to enter now i will book a flight to Laos or PH. Until i know if i am approved.

If you’re not sure, and just like to hear your own voice, please refrain from making pointless comments about it. (you know who you are) lol.

Yes i know i should have gotten the application submitted sooner. It took longer to complete because of reasons i dont need to explain here.
