TLDR : Answer Summary
The sufficiency of an online portfolio for the employment requirement of the DTV application can vary by embassy. Some users report that while a portfolio can be helpful, embassies may also require additional documentation such as work contracts or tax returns to substantiate self-employment. There are mixed experiences regarding the acceptance of the portfolio alone.

How should anybody be able to evaluate that without seeing the portfolio.

I just applied for the DTV in Vietiane, Laos as a self employed private tutor.

I provided tax returns as proof of self employment.

He asked for a work contract, which I did not have. I got the feeling my application will be rejected on that grounds. I'll find out on Tuesday.

Portfolio only can work depending on the embassy. Some require contract info.
