Will an education visa holder face more scrutiny upon re-entering Thailand after an extended stay abroad?

Hypothetically, if someone obtained an "Education VISA" via an agent, and then went back to home country for an elongated period of time and then returned back to Thailand, let's assume a re-entry permit was applied for before going back to home country. Would that person be scrutinised more by Immigration staff at the airport?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the potential scrutiny a person on an Education Visa may face when re-entering Thailand after a prolonged absence from the country. Several comments highlight that Immigration officials might question the reason for the extended stay outside Thailand, especially given that the Education Visa is intended for studying. It is emphasized that failure to comply with visa regulations, such as the requirement for regular 90-day reporting, could lead to entry denial, regardless of a re-entry permit.

An ED visa is for studying in a school Thailand with a curriculum and a time table. If you actually stay abroad, I guess you will need another category of visa for your next visit to Thailand.

Bad question.

DEFINITELY, not hypothetically, entry to Thailand will be scrutinised by Immigration Bureau staff.

Peter H Bates not a bad question at all. I was basically enquiring if the person would be scrutinised to a greater degree considering that person is meant to be studying

The ED visa must be extended every 90 days, unless going to an actual university. If you miss any of these 90 day extensions then at that time, whether you have a re-entry permit, or not, the visa is voided.

Kool Breez ah so the 90 day report doesn't work the same as 90 day report for NON(O) or NON(OA) based on retirement?

Indeed they would be, and quite possibly be denied entry. Immigration take the view that the ED visa is issued for studying and if you haven't been doing so they will likely just turn you around.
