Which insurance provider covers hospitel isolation expenses for asymptomatic COVID in Thailand?

Hi,

as my insurance policy with Luma expires tomorrow, I'm in the market for a new policy for 1 month.

I've learned from a few sources that no Thai insurance provider covers hotel (hospitel) isolation expenses for asymptomatic covid. Therefore, I have 2 questions:

1. Can anyone recommend an insurance provider from outside of Thailand that would cover such expenses and has a reasonable premium cost?

1. In case I do get covid and I'm asymptomatic, do I get to choose which hotel I'd like to isolate at? Is there somewhere where I can browse a list of such hotels along with their prices?

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking for a new insurance policy that covers hospitel isolation expenses related to asymptomatic COVID-19 for a one-month duration, as their current policy with Luma expires. They seek recommendations for insurance providers based outside of Thailand and inquire if they can choose their hospitel and access a list of such hotels with pricing. Responses suggest discussing options with a broker and clarify that most international policies may not cover asymptomatic cases, which leads to potential out-of-pocket costs for quarantine.

I don't think any international policies will cover it, they only cover hospitalization [which being placed in a hospitel is equivalent to] in cases of medical necessity, and asymptomatic and mild Covid doesn't necessitate hospitalization in medical terms. I believe the Luma policy states that they'll pay if a doctor certifies that it is medically necessary because you're at high risk to progress to severe illness due to underlying health issues, and they 'force' you into the hospitel/hospital, but only under those circumstances...but isn't relevant to a lot of people. Essentially anyone entering Thailand is taking that risk that they'll have to pay a hotel for quarantine out of their own pocket, if they test positive and aren't feeling too bad.

Believe will be difficult to find a one month policy now that you are in Thailand unless you are on a longer term visa. At least this has been my experience. It is no longer travel type medical insurance. Your current provider may be able to provide a one time extension. My understanding is the doctor that contacts you if tested positive has a lot of say in where you end up doing quarantine. Am sure those with more solid knowledge will comment. I think some people have been able to quarantine at their hotel but depends on situation and not sure of cost. Most insurance just covers medical related expenses for Covid but you must meet certain medical requirements for that such as fever, oxygen levels defined over a set period. You could check Nomad type insurance that covers for most countries if you are travelling around but again most policies likely don't cover for quarantine costs.

Actually, Ms. Namak IS one of the sources I mentioned. To quote her:

"From

/2022. All insurers will not cover if you re tested positive covid asymptomatic. If you re not fell sick then the thai authority’s forced you to stay in hospital, hospitel or hotel for quarantine.

The insurance company will pay the expenses related to the medical treatment you need due to positive covid . Not the room or accommodation charge.

The insurance company will Not cover for close case contact either.

Right now if no symptoms they will push you to do hotel isolation or home isolation."
