What Is the Process for Extending a Visa Exemption in Thailand?

Hi all, Just want to relate back my experience today: I went today to extend my Visa Exemption at Muang Thong Thani for another 30 days as it expired on the 17th and I was turned away at the entrance to the building. I was told by the nice lady at the door that I did not need to pay and extend at the moment and was to check back regularly on there website closer to the 30th of April for any updates on when to come back for an extension.
