What is the process and experience of obtaining a DTV visa through an agent in Thailand?

2 days ago
DTV APPROVED - JAKARTA Embassy (Online) - German Passport

I decided to get help of an agent - they offer 100% money back if its not working which gave me a free mind

06.05.25 Call with Issa Compass Agent, decided to go Softpower - Muay Thai - at Jakarta Embassy

07.05.25 Looking for a Gym nearby which is capable of providing all the documents

08.05.25 Paid Gym and got all documents

09.05.25 Email to Issa with:

1. Hotel Booking in Indonesia (with 5 business days needed, can cancel after screenshot and make different plans)

2. ID-Style Headshot Photo

3. Muay Thai documents - the gym prepared everything in Thai language:

(a. Business Registration,

b. ID of Owner,

c. Certificate from Sport Authority of Thailand Ministry of Tourism and Sport of Thailand,

d. Engagement Agreement (6months),

e. Invitation Letter,

f. Picture of Payment)

4. Bank Statements for last 6 months with 500k+ THB (In German language)

5. My Health Insurance (not necessary but i thought it might help)

6. Every page of my passport

10.05.25 Flight to Bali, Issa did application online same day

20.05.25 Got Email with approved Visa (10 Days for visa including weekends and public holidays), no additional q ask etc..

21.05.25 Fly back to Phuket with printed out DTV, got pulled aside immediately when the IO saw DTV, another IO gave me a form to sign with information about me and my visa. I needed to send my DTV documents to an email from their immigration. After more questions about my plans and the length of my stay - 180d stamp

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post details a personal experience of obtaining a DTV visa through an agency while in Jakarta. The individual highlights their communications and steps taken, including booking a gym for Muay Thai as part of the visa application. After providing necessary documents, they quickly received visa approval despite some concerns raised by others regarding the long-term requirements of such a visa, particularly relating to ongoing enrollment in classes, as well as the cost of services offered by agents. Several readers engaged in discussions about the experience and the validity of the process, expressing both skepticism and support.

Hiya, congrats on visa. I am currently in Bali applying online to Jakarta embassy too, but without agent. Please can I ask you-what did you list as home address(your hotel in Bali or your home address in your country?) And what did you use as proof of current location as they don't stamp the passport here.

Thank you! 🙏

Good God muay Thai companies are just raping foreigners now. I paid 17,000 for 6 months when this all started
Hazy ***
Anonymous participant 495 I paid 15,000 for 6 months last week. That's the most basic level. Some cost more if you want to train daily or unlimited access. I just got one group class a week for that price which is ok for me🤗

Dayum dude got scammed. I spent 7 days in Vietnam. Did it myself online. Spent 12k baht total

Wow your Muay Thai was expensive, try Fight EVO360 Thailand - Thepprasit Boxing Stadium it's way better

many there charge around 18-20k

it's so only one close to me which could provide the docs needed, if I want to go cheap I would just have gone with cooking classes instead

You forget the soft power activity cost for the next 4.5 years in your calculation.
James ********
@Luit ****************
at this time, there's NO such requirement ....showing proof of ongoing enrollment for a soft power activity.

When the factual rules for the DTV do in fact change, please post the update.
Luit *****************
@James *******
One of factual rules for DTV are participation in soft power activity, it nowhere states that only is for a limited period. So no rule needed to change to revoke someone entry at the border that does not do soft power activity anymore. It is up to IO to check or not.
James ********
@Luit ****************
agreed 👍 but there's no reports of being questioned by Thai Immigration Officers and denied entry.
Luit *****************
@James *******
I see some reports, but it is difficult to check if they are true or not.

The only tjing I wanted to make people aware of, is that in case an IO asks for proof of ongoing activity and you don't have, the IO has the right to stop you.

You got granted a visa to visit the country for a purpose and the IO has the right to check if your visit matches this purpose.

The more people abuse this visa and do not have an ongoing activity, the more difficult it will get for people who really want to use the visa the way it is intended, so we should be happy with the checks by IO.

Jérém *********
What happens in 6 months if the immigration officer finds out that you are no longer enrolled in school?

Are you required to attend classes?
Luit *****************
@Jérém ********
yes, chances are low that IO will check, but you can only use whatever visa as long as you comply to the visa requirements.

There is nowhere stated that DTV is an exeption on this rule.

I did the same thing, but I’m doing the cooking class and I went to Philippines for a month and travel to 10 different spots in the Philippines, and spent the same amount of money for everything

Anonymous participant 851 I am just happy with their service, see it as promo or as a tip. Fact is that I have seen many people in this group getting their visa rejected. Via that agent I got a smooth process and no headaches..

Nitai ****************
I think you have to do another 6 months gym subscription after this one expires?
Anonymous ******************
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 768 When you don't get another subscription, officially you can not use the visa because you do not comply with the requirements anymore.

Maybe chances to get caught on this are small, but if it is worth the risk?
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
There is no requirement to maintain courses. The best example to demonstrate this is the medical route, no one is doing 5 years worth of dental treatment, most not even doing a month, yet 5 year visa is granted. Meanwhile with ED there is a requirement to keep going or lose visa
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant 768 haha yet wait until you get checked for ongoing courses to maintain your DTV, in essence the DTV is only for Muay Thai so pointless and invalid if not doing the course, don't see anywhere it says book a 6 months muay Thai and with give you 5 years DTV , probably reason it's only valid for 6 months at a time
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant 571 they accepted 3 month course initially, 6 months is just period of stay they set at start, when same time they were accepting 2 week dental treatment plans. While there is no guarantee they don't change things later, there is zero requirement at this time you have to sign up for more courses, that is fact
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 768 Do you have proof for that? Normally you have to comply with visa rules as long as you want to use it. DTV should not be an exception, and that is also why you need to show everything when you extend in country.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
How can one prove a negative? There is zero requirement listed ANYWHERE to maintain your muay thai, cooking, medical treatment, job or anything on DTV.

But you will see that requirement listed on ED or NonB/WP, or simerlar on retirement to keep funds in account.

Now to extend in country you are meant to show various proofs, but that's just something immigration invented themselves (foriegn office control DTV) and actually have not created any actual law/rule for all that

They are probably feeling butt hurt that dtv cuts into their unofficial revenue streams, like no question asked ED extensions, partnerships with visa run companies or agents to look other other way if not got the cash in account to renew retirement and so on
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 768 Just believe what suits you best, but requirements are clearly stated without any time limit. So a bit weird you say you cannot prove a negative. And saying immigration invents its own rules is ridiculous, they are only allowed to check if you comply to visa rules, and only are free to interpret how you can prove. They are not allowed to make new rules.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
"clearly stated" that you have to maintain for 5 years ....where? Link please ....waiting ...

"saying immigration invented its own rules is ridiculous" you really are new to Thailand are you not? It's not only not ridiculous, its expected. It's part of the reason everyone checks requirements for X by office here, because each immigration office has its own rules, invented by them.

For example around about year ago Phuket immigration would not grant ED if you had a Vientiane land crossing stamp anywhere in your passport, why? Because head of Phuket immigration was having a spat with head of immigration up there, nothing more nothing less
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 768 If there is a visa requirement and it is not stated as required only for a limited time, it just is a requirement for the whole period the visa is valid. That is how all types of visa in the whole world are working.

It is not an entrance ticket you buy and when you get it rules suddenly don't apply anymore.

You apply for a visa for a certain purpose of stay, and get granted if MFA thinks it is likely you will visit the country for that purpose.

But that does not mean you can enter the country for whatever you like when you are not visiting it for the purpose you applied for.

I am certainly not new to Thailand, and I know about different interpretations of laws at different immigration offices, but the guidelines for extension are clear and say that it should be checked you still comply to the visa requirements.

Maybe I also would take the risk to use a visa, even when I do not comply anymore because the risk to get caught, at least for now, is very low.

But telling that requirements don't exist anymore as soon as you are granted for the visa, just is not true.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
Still waiting for links, until you are able to provide them advise you to stop telling people to waste money, because everything you are saying is just your newbie interpretation of how things work elsewhere in the world. As the old saying goes "This is Thailand" not the world
Anonymous ******************

still cheaper than any other visa you will find.

So you paid 6050 THB for uploading documents and filling your details. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Anonymous participant 762 People do this to ensure applications are submitted correctly, for peace of mind, there’s many rejections for people who don’t submit the correct documents.

Also a lot of people are very busy and don’t have time to do these things themselves.

The most important piece of information is:

21.05.25 Fly back to Phuket with printed out DTV, got pulled aside immediately when the IO saw DTV, another IO gave me a form to sign with information about me and my visa. I needed to send my DTV documents to an email from their immigration.

Basically they asked you to send all the documents provided for the visa application to an e-mail address of the immigration office?
Anonymous *************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Dnatjugweme ***********
they asked for all but I didn't send all documents, I told the IO that the files are just too big for email. I think the most important was bank statement since I saw that the IO had printed that out afterwards. He didn't ask anything about it tho.

What did the agency actually do ? You got all documents yourself and Emailed them ! Why not just upload them and submit it's 10,000 for application what exactly did the agent do and how much was you charged by them

it's actually piss easy and this group helps so much all the information is available and it's repetitive, hundreds have done it, pay online and upload 5-6 documents that's required, the hardest part was changing a file size lol
MacKenzie ******
Anonymous participant 571 yeah man, I didn’t want to. I got rejected 6 months ago and saw a whole ton of people on here get rejected for little mistakes. 5000 baht is nothing, but it made for great insurance.

Like obviously you can do it yourself. But this is a great option for people who 1) dont want to 2) want to ensure it’s done correctly and 3) want to know if they get rejected they get a refund. Because they refund the WHOLE thing, including the visa cost.
Paul *********
@MacKenzie *****
it ain’t just 5 k though is it you still have to be out of the country in a different place so you still have all the same costs unless your doing it from home
MacKenzie ******
@Paul ********
everyone has to leave the country to apply. It’s a 5-6k difference on using Issa compared to doing it yourself. For me, having a guarantee of refund and having someone else handle application and replies to embassy, was worth this little extra cost.
Anonymous ******************
@MacKenzie *****
useful for people who have no Idea what there doing I suppose
MacKenzie ******
I went under remote work🧑‍💻 not a soft power activity.
Wayne *******
@MacKenzie *****
How does that work compared to a muay thai or cooking class? As there is no entity to pay for a service if one is working remotely, is that correct? So for example only, Im working as an online tutor for a Chinese company tutoring non Thais in Chiang Mai?

Ive already been told by an agent I need to show CURRENT payments for the application, so they wont allow me to commence once Im in Thailand. I already need to be working and receiving a wage to show them! I find that strange as for the soft power route its impossible to commence until you actually arrive!

Im looking at later this year so only foraging for info and experience at the moment. I do have the option of a Non-O but would rather avoid that option 👍
MacKenzie ******
@Wayne ******
hey Wayne!

So for me, I’m paid directly from my company that employs me from Europe — however my work does not require me to be in Thailand. Bangkok is a great place to be for my time zone of operation and accessibility to Asia-Pacific. But none of my work takes place in Thailand.

Your agent is correct, based on my previous experience as well. This chicken and egg payment before visa thing was my problem initially. I was previously employed by a Thai foundation, and when I got my new remote job in December, I tried immediately to go to Taipei to get on DTV.

I had been paid only one month on my current contract when I applied the first time, and they pretty much told me to go back to Thailand for 3-4 months and try again later when I had been paid consistently on my current contract😕 I thought that once I switched my job, the right thing would be to switch my Visa. But you have to wait for a couple payments FIRST. it was a huge waste of money for me, and so when I did it the second time —after being paid on my current contract for 4 months. I decided to use Issa to check my documents, ensure I was fully eligible (and by some chance I was denied, get a full refund) and did my visa in Vietnam. It was processed fine this time.

For you, I think one thing i’d consider is that even though you’re being paid from China, forgive me if I’m wrong, your work is in Thailand. I think that there could be legal ramifications of this fact down the line — beyond that of just experiencing initial challenges getting the DTV visa.
MacKenzie ******
Anonymous participant 571 I used Issa too. LOVED their service. Of course you can do it yourself but having a professional check all docs, submit everything for you, speak to embassy on your behalf AND guarantee full refund or free resubmission for 5k baht is such a good deal. Made my DTV application so stress free
Daniel *********
Imagine paying 5K baht for someone to reply to an email, that you will have had to answer the question for, essentially copy, paste, send. lol
MacKenzie ******
@Daniel ********
they have a 99.4% success rate and a guaranteed refund if you’re rejected. That’s worth 5k for me alone.

But seriously like the time it takes to organize all the paperwork, submit everything, reply to embassy is also at least a half-day of work. Which to me is worth just paying someone else $150 to do it for me — even outside of the guarantee.

If that’s not worth it for you, that’s fine. Everyone has a different value on their time, and that’s okay. For some people this is a worthwhile service
Daniel *********
@MacKenzie *****
of course they do as they won’t process your documents unless you meet the requirements. They aren’t doing anything else than submitting the required documents:
Chris *********
@MacKenzie *****
100% they dontbspeak to the embassy
MacKenzie ******
@Chris ********
They emailed the embassy on my behalf when there was a follow up question about my pay slips.

I had a line of support the entire process. I’d do it again this way in a heartbeat.
Anonymous ******************
@MacKenzie *****
you dont email them just reply to the message on the website portal, this is how you communicate between you and the embassy, I only knew this as did my own and 5 friends with them it's a 5 minute process and if you are missing any documents you get asked to upload them
Anonymous ******************
@Chris ********
I was thinking same here don't do anything accept 10 minutes upload the details you emailed them, easy money
