Hello all.
I am a Swiss national (50+) married to a Phillipina (<50) and we intend on moving to Thailand for a few years.
To this end, I will apply for a "Non-Immigrant O" retirement visa and my wife will piggy-back with a dependent visa.
My question is how to best facilitate this? Checking the embassy's visa page here in Switzerland, it appears we can obtain these visas from them. (They have various subtypes to the "Non-Immigrant O" visas, with the retirement visa designated "O2" and the dependent visa "O7".)
In terms of the required documentation, this seems a pretty attractive option for us. However, I read that a lot of people recommend getting the Non-O retirement visa in Thailand itself.
I would be open to doing so, but from what I gather my wife would need to apply for the dependent visa from outside Thailand.
Is this correct?
What's the best/recommended course of action?
Thanks much,
Jake
TLDR : Answer Summary
A Swiss national and his Filipino wife plan to move to Thailand and are looking for advice on obtaining a Non-Immigrant O retirement visa and a dependent visa. It is recommended to secure these visas from their home country, as obtaining a trailing spouse visa is no longer available in Thailand. The consensus in the comments supports acquiring the visas before arriving in Thailand to avoid complications.
