TLDR : Answer Summary

This post shares insights about the current waiting times for visa approvals and highlights the importance of having the correct documentation, reflecting the experiences of others with varying approval durations.
Can not put a potential return date of 5 years must be within 180 days. Some embassies require an actual ticket of arrival and onward journey be bought, many are ok with an intended date,
Yes, an onward ticket can be required even if you have no intention of using it. Where are you applying? It depends on the embassy. I got mine in Taipei, no onward ticket needed just an intended date of departure.
I'm currently in Australia. I'm a British National intending to do the DTV thing from January. I can be pretty much anywhere when I apply for it, but are there rules around that? E.g. do I need proof of residency, as I won't have any other than my property that I rent out in UK. Thank you for this btw : )
Mark RushworthYeah, Vietnam is very good. I almost went there but chose Taipei due to their same day approval. You have an employment visa in Australia?
You can apply in Australia if you are a legal resident. Many countries in SE Asia you can apply as a tourist by showing your hotel booking, passport arrival stamp. Singapore you must be a resident. I'd avoid Malaysia as it is the most difficult embassy to apply from. You can get it easy enough back in the UK
Thanks for clarifying. My departure date is in >1month and I was asked to provide an actual ticket with both arrival and onward journey. The processing time has also been quite slow, but I'm starting to suspect they priotise earlier departure dates.
You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.
Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.
Great you got approved so quick. There are a few waiting for over a week to get approved. Next day approvals were very common last year in London, hopefully a sign they back.
