Hello. My wife and I want to come to Thailand and live in Krabi. We work online. What are our visa options for staying long term. We have a one way ticket booked for October. We are Canadian.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian couple planning to move to Krabi, Thailand, in October is exploring their long-term visa options. They have been advised on various visa types, including the 60/90 day tourist visa (which can be extended), the multiple-entry tourist visa (METV) allowing for extended stays through border runs, and alternatives like the ED visa for studying Thai. They were also cautioned about working without a permit, the implications of traveling with a one-way ticket, and the new Highly Skilled visa for remote workers earning over USD 80k annually. Additionally, the couple is reminded to check the requirements for their specific circumstances and potential visa applications from their current location in Vietnam.

Also it's not strictly legal to work inside Thailand without a work permit so I'd keep very quiet about the fact you plan to work online.

If you are 48 I would get the
*****
tourist visa. Sign up for kick boxing if you want to get healthy or sign up for a year ED visa to learn Thai. Learning Thai will come in handy. That gives you 15 months. Do a couple border bounces until you turn 50. Once 50 just need 800,000 in the bank.

Canada won't even let you get on the plane with a one way. Fyi.

You need to show outbound travel. Before whatever visa you have expires.

you may still have the same problems. Onward travel is a requirement if your not holding long stay visas.

Can always purchase a cheap bus ticket to a neighboring country.
Tod *********
You don't have a lot of options, šŸ˜• ED visa, Elite Visa, get a 6 month METV before you come here and that will at least buy you close to 9 months of stay here (in 60 day increments)
Martin *****
Elite visa, Google it

If you work remotely in tech for a publicly listed company and make at least USD 80k per year, you'll probably qualify for the new Highly Skilled visa. I believe they are taking applications now.

@Deanna ********
applications are set to open September 1st

@Deanna ********
Thats the SMART Visa, right?

Can we get a 60 day visa online?
Wannikea *********
@Rob **********
usually yes, but Iā€™m not up to snuff on how Vietnam handles these.

Oops... Too young for the retirement Visa. Must be age 50+

Not sure 3-6 months maybe longer
Wannikea *********
@Rob **********
definitely METV would suit you. Good for 6 months, stamped in for 60 days each entry and each entry can get a 30 day extension, can get 9 months out of it if you play your cards right. When you apply for it in Canada tell them you plan to visit nearby countries as well.

@Wannikea ********
we have a one way ticket to Thailand. Will this be a problem?
Wannikea *********
@Rob **********
that mostly depends on the airline you're travelling with, but as you're already in Asia I'd say no.

@Wannikea ********
thanks but I'm in Vietnam.

@Rob **********
dang you're skinny on details, hard to get a good sense of your situation. You say live in Thailand but you mean stay x months, you state your Canadian but don't say you are in Vietnam. Check the Thai evisa website and state/input where you are and if they sell the METV there to foreigners.

@Wannikea ********
, Applicant might need a ticket from their port of origin (means the country of the consulate you apply for a tourist visa at) to Thailand and reason for "Multiple" entries to get METV.
James ********
@Rob **********
Then do as
@Wannikea ********
suggested... get the METV multiple entry tourist visa.
Wannikea *********
@Rob **********
what's your definition of long term?
Wannikea *********
@Rob **********
you really don't have any options for long term other than a METV tourist visa, which you could squeeze 9 months out of with border bounces, or an ED visa, or if you have the money an Elite visa.
James ********
Oops....as you must be age 50+ to get the Non O based on retirement Visa I will delete my remarks. Sorry.

that will get you 60 + 30 = 90 days stay...
