My aunt is on an Alaskan cruise and my wife (Thai) is absolutely fascinated by the pictures. Anyone done a cruise out of bkk? Not a river cruise or an evening events- a multi day proper cruise.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around finding multi-day cruises originating from Bangkok, with suggestions highlighting various options around Southeast Asia. Users share their experiences with cruises departing from nearby ports such as Singapore and Laem Chabang, mention specific cruise lines like Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises, and caution against scams associated with your booking. There's also a brief mention of cruise itineraries that include popular Thai destinations such as Koh Samui and Phuket.

Check Cruise Direct and set the starting port as Bangkok. It'll pull up all your options.

There are very few cruises that fepart and eturn to 'Bangkok', that's even if you could, say Lan Chabang was Bangkok πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ we did a cruise last year that started in Hong Kong, called into a few places in Vietnam, a couple Thailand and finished in Singapore. Well worth checking it out. There are also a few short cruises, 3-5 night, that depart Singapore but return to Singapore

There are plenty of choices mainly Singapore and Malaysian companies, They are more geared up for the Asian travellers.

You can join some of the big cruises. Western style like celebrity/carnival in Bangkok but not regular service and works out a lot more expensive.

What do you want to know ?

My first trip to Thailand was on QE2 in 1985

We have three cruises booked at the moment - Seattle through Alaska then to Japan, next cruise through Japan and Korea and the last going from Hong Kong through China, Vietnam, Singapore then to Koh Samui and ending in Bangkok. Mega excited and will probably be able to answer your question after that cruise finishes on Nov 6th.

Don't confuse a cruise in Alaska with a cruise in the Gulf of Thailand.

as a person that has lived in AK for 25 years before retiring to warmer weather.

It is great to do a cruise through the inside passage for your first visit.

The cruise will take you to some wonderful places in SE Alaska where the locals pull off their reeboks and T-shirts to don their AK native gear when the ship pulls in. Souvenirs are triple price along with food. You’re a captive audience.

IMHO, the best and most economically way to see AK is too book a motorhome in advance and you have your wheels and hotel in one vehicle. Free camping is everywhere. Drive down to Seward. Go to Denali ECT.
