I’ve seen a video from a legal office in Bangkok & truthfully the banks are only supposed to open accounts from the branch nearest your residence. I know this is different than in the U.S. where we can open any bank account at any branch so long as we have KYC information on file. I have 3 checking accounts & none of them have branches near me but I don’t need them to.
Good luck opening an account in Thailand. I’m thinking of trying the headquarters for Bangkok Bank in Sathorn to see what they say.
Open the bank in the place you reside. Sometimes you have to visit the bank where you opened the account. If you open in Bangkok and live in Hua Hin it’s a long trek. Also getting print outs for immigration will be a nightmare.
Try a different bank or another location. Each bank may have different requirements, which is up to the bank managers' discretion. They can simply deny you, if they don't know how to or don't want to.
Problems like this seem to come about because there is a K Bank Branch in Hua Hin.
When I opened a Bkk Bank Account in Phitsanulok City... I remember the Custermer Services Officer asking the wife if there wasn't a Bkk Branch closer to my address.
My Wife said probably in Phichet... The Customer Services Officer said different Province... and then she proceeded to open the Account...
Possible the fact there was a K Bank Branch in Hua Hin Province was the issue...
My local UOB turned me down after speaking with their Area Manager. Some 🐂💩 about wanting to see me operating the Krungsri Bank Account for 3 months first. I went to UOB because my local Krungsri didn’t operate Foreign Currency Accounts. Went back 3 months later as requested only to be told that it had been decided to decline my request. They suggested I went to Bangkok Bank, which I did and had an account opened within an hour!! Branch and Area managers do make up their own rules (over and above what the main bank website states)
