What are the costs, renewal limits, and health insurance requirements for the Thailand OA Visa?

Come this summer, I will be residing in Thailand and traveling back to the USA every two months to see family for a couple of weeks. It appears the multi-entry one year OA Visa would be best suited for me but I have a couple of questions.

Is the initial cost and renewals of the OA Visa still $200? I can't seem to find anything on Thailand's website.

Is there a limit to how many one year renewals I will be granted?

I noticed someone talking about their difficulty in acquiring health insurance. I am 72. Will I be able to obtain health insurance at the limits required by Thailand that will not break my bank?

Thanks so much!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information about the costs and details related to the Multi-Entry One Year OA Visa for their upcoming residency in Thailand. They ask if the initial cost and renewals are still $200, whether there is a limit to the number of one-year renewals, and if they can find affordable health insurance as a 72-year-old expat. Responses clarify that the OA visa fee is indeed $200, there is no limit on renewals for US passport holders, and for health insurance, users are advised to consult insurance providers and the Royal Thai Embassy's website for accurate information.

Sorry but this post is not going to be the one to list all possible visa types.

Possibly an METV visa might suit you, 6 months multiple entry validity, with a well timed entry 9 months possible. But realistically a non O with yearly extensions and multiple entry permit, tho you might want to be planning exactly when the extension time occurs by buying the visa at an opportune time to coincide with your travel plans back home.

, good for the first year, or possibly for about two years. It might not be a solution for longer if OP is considering long-term stay.

thank you! I don’t remember seeing a METV visa but I’ll look into it. Thanks!

@Geoffrey *****
but it's a bit expensive for what it offers, especially if the scenario you laid out is ongoing year to year.

You might consider the Non O Retirement visa via the Thai consulate in Los Angeles. No insurance required. You need to show funds in USA equivalent to 800k baht then….. You will need to open a bank account in Thailand and deposit 800,000 baht in order to obtain one year extensions of stay.

I guess I’m confused about the “non” O visa. I don’t remember seeing the non on the visa websites. I’ll look again. But it is going to be difficult to show my flight out of Thailand since I can’t plan it until right before I go. Thank you!

Visa exempt entry is not a solution for long term stay in Thailand. It would seem an O or OA visa with appropriate extensions of stay and reentry permits are for you. You could enter visa exempt to apply for the O visa inside Thailand.

that’s what I’m thinking but I’m still ignorant at this point. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks Tony!

Another option is just enter on visa exempt, you get a free 60 day stamp which you can extend for another 30 days if required.

that’s what I would like to do but I’ve read where they are not allowing more than a few reentries. Thanks, Pete!

Why not just do 3 month nonO age 50 and over visa from inside Thailand since it does not require insurance? When close to expiration, ask for 1 year extension and pay for multiple entry. 3800 Thb total for ext plus multiple reentry.

I really don’t know my options other than visa exempt, but I know they are not allowing infinite entries upon reentry. I tried reading the options on the two Thai websites but didn’t understand the option you mentioned. Thank you!

Thanks Ellie. I’ll understand all of this by the time I go…I hope!🤣

, be aware that non-O requires you to have 800k baht in your Thai bank account for an extension while Non-OA doesn’t require funds in Thailand.

Q. Is the initial cost and renewals of the OA Visa still $200?

-> The visa fee for Non-OA in US is 200 USD.

Q. Is there a limit to how many one year renewals I will be granted?

-> No in US. There are US passport holders who continue getting Non-OA every 1-2 years.

Q. Will I be able to obtain health insurance at the limits required by Thailand that will not break my bank?

-> That is between you and your insurance provider. Unfortunately, insurance details are out of the scope of this group. Check the requirements for Non-OA and talk with your insurance companies.

You need to check the website of the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate where you apply for your visa for detailed requirements.

See this page for RTE/RTCG Jurisdiction in US.
