Hello, I'm Maya

I have 2 cats, and currently live in Las Vegas, NV. My lease is up in March 2027, so I want to move to Thailand by April 1st. I visited in September 2025 and loved it.

Preferably looking for a village/community and a slower lifestyle...I prefer living by the beach. I'm 32, and I have 1 income with the VA disabilty and I have another income with my tech job, WFH.

Can anyone point me to a realtor or foreign friendly apartments? Also which visa would work best?

That can help me find a great place?? I'm looking for a 1-2 year lease. But I'll be in an Airbnb or hotel until I look and settle on a place.
Answer summary
Maya, who is planning to move to Thailand with her two cats by April 1, 2027, seeks recommendations for pet-friendly rentals and the best visa options for her situation. Various comments suggest the DTV visa based on remote work, or the LTR visa if her income meets certain thresholds. Notably, it's emphasized that to rent a place, she should ensure the property allows pets. Recommendations for locations like Hua Hin and Rayong are mentioned as they offer a beach lifestyle, along with the suggestion to explore potential places before committing to a lease.

Please contact your vet about your pets first and inquire about pet friendly units. I traveled with my Chihuahua from Las Vegas to Bangkok.

Leave the cats at home. Come for 2 months on a tourist visa. Look around. Find a city. Research, research, and more research. Then, and only then, move here.

As mentioned you really need to test a prospective location for a few weeks before you commit to a long term lease..if you want beachside then check out Hua Hin or for more budget option look at Rayong. Both are about 2.5 hours from Bangkok

Condominium managements do not allow any pets. You would have to find a pet-friendly rental object. Longterm Visa for people under 50 years of age? Like John Stanners mentioned, a DTV based on workation (500,000 THB in funds needed = $15,400 USD) will grant you a 5-year visa. Or check out the LTR option. Alternatively you can buy a 5-year Elite Privilege visa for 900,000 THB ($ 28,000 USD) or a 10-year Elite Privilege

There's no beach in Bangkok just fyi. Vacation and living are two different things. I wouldn't necessarily say BKK is less stressful than NLV. In fact it's probably more, given the huge population difference, high traffic levels and terrible air pollution. Suggesting looking around the edges of the city to live but stay on the metro line

No offence to the poster

But do all VA get disability allowance ?

Seems every vet is getting it

Must cost the government an absolute fortune

OP
Joiner the president of the USA is a felon. Started an illegal war & is charging the US citizens to cover this unneeded war.

Veterans w/ 100% aren’t at all affecting the cost of taxpayers. Blame the billionaires.

The amount of mental & physical loopholes they put us through is crazy. I missed 6 yrs of family events, was SA’s by a pilot, & had 2 knee surgeries soon to be 3.

someone achieves it doesn’t mean they didn’t earn it.

Remember to be angry at the billionaires with tax cuts ☺️🫶🏽

Think what it cost the veteran to actually qualify. Believe me, it is a much higher price than the small compensation received.

Dogma Dogma Less than 25% of veterans got their disability due to combat. 40% of veterans who served after 1990 now receive disability payments. Those who enlisted after 2010 were much less likely to deploy but have the highest rate of disability compensation. Only 1% after 2010 were injured in combat. Recrntly 5000 pilots who passed their FAA physical were found to be on disability. It seems se people might be gaming the system through lawyer assisted spurious reasoning. Not saying it happened here, but the question was asked, and law makers are grappling with it as the VA is on the point of collapse.

Thai Jag I am not a combat veteran but I can tell you that I have experienced things no person ever should. I have the scars, the nightmares and meds to combat these events. It’s not about who got there “wounds” in battle or not. Each soldiers experience is different. There are combat vets who have zero issues, there are other non combat soldiers who have many.

Both men and women have experienced SA in service. Both men and women have been physically attacked in service (not combat). I have a scar on my chin where I was NOT hit by my CO. Things happen and we cannot know what each veteran’s experience is or was.

Combat soldiers to desk jockey, We cannot do the job without every soldier doing each job assigned.

As far as gaming the system, I am certain a few have done this. But I believe this to be very rare. Anyone who has gone through the VA claims process can attest to how difficult it is to get an approved condition. Even harder to get the correct rating and yet again to get other conditions rated as the more conditions you have the harder it is to get more percentages.

It took 15 years fighting for my father and he was stationed at Camp Lejeune. Took another 8 years for my rating. And I had tons of in service records and hospital stays to back my claim.

Being able to work does not mean you don’t have a claim. It is not Social Security disability. It means that while in the job something happened that damaged you in some way. VA disability is a system that compensates you for that.

Anyone hurt on any job deserves compensation. Veterans even more so. Be it one day or 30 years that they served, they were willing to sign their life for their country. Regardless of job and regardless of locale. I will always support anyone willing to give their all for others.

My apologies for the long winded post.

Thai Jag VA disability, as framed since 1945, isn’t related to combat but service. The way the laws were written require three things- an event injury or illness in service, a current diagnosis of the same with chronicity, and a nexus between the two. VA disability is way different from SS or any other. Having said that, I think the system, as a system, has been gamed.

Don't know anything about apartments but there's only one visa that will allow you to work remotely from Thailand legally and that's the DTV based on Workation (unless your income is $80k USD or more per annum in which case also look at the LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa)

she could apply for medical soft power and then work with the DTV.

$40k if you have a Master's. Your employer also needs to qualify based on their revenue. Plus they need to say yes as well.
