TLDR : Answer Summary
This post discusses various experiences and recommendations for studying the Thai language. Comments highlight a specific language school, Duke, which offers a structured program with different pricing options based on course packages and corresponding education visas for foreign students. Participants share insights on the challenges of learning Thai as a tonal language, emphasizing the importance of reading for improving pronunciation and tone.
It's daunting to learn a tonal language...I gave up quickly. You really need to have the aptitude and patience and spend a lot of time. This is coming from someone who can speak several languages.. But all learned at a very young age.
Duke Language School (Sukhumvit Soi 13) offers the following packages: 16k฿ for 2 courses + assistance for 3-month ED-Visa, 36k฿ for 5 courses + 8-month ED-Visa, and 49k฿ for 7 courses + 1-year ED-Visa (all exclude textbooks and visa application fees). Or individual courses at 8k฿ each. Each course runs for 20 days (4 weeks), 5 lessons per week, 3 hours per lesson. Total of 9 Thai-language courses available, 3 on speaking, 6 on reading/writing.
If you really want to learn Thai, check out Duke. It's really highly recommended, and having sat in a trial class recently I understand why. The students achieve a very high level after only a few courses. It's 8k baht for for 20 days / 60 hrs course/unit.
