There are many ways to stay in Thailand legally. Education or Elite Visa.
So cheap for a 5 year visa. Just a bummer if rejected as it's non refundable. I didn't think the application process was horrible, it was pretty easy and straightforward in my case. But there was a horrible part for me; the interview at the Thai embassy in Tokyo. Luckily I got through it
You've obviously done the best you could. If successful, $340 for a 5 years multi-entry visa is fantastic value. If not, you have options depending upon how much you want to live in Thailand. If you really do, another submission via Issa Compass would be the safest way forward. They have a 99% success rate. If a vetted application fails you can get the whole of your money back (their fee plus Embassy fee). Alternatively, you can opt for one further free submission at a different Embassy. If you don't wish to try again, there are plenty of other countries to choose from. What you do about your $340 application fee is up to you. I know what I would do if I decided to go elsewhere.
