Before i got married and moved up to Bangkok used to come up to see my wife from Phuket. buses were way more convenient and flying is not one hour when you take all the other things into consideration.

Plane

1 hour drive to airport from rawai

90 minutes prior to take off (recomended time now)

1 20 minutes flight

Taxi to wifes house 90 minutes.

Much easier to jump on bus in the evening and get to within 15 minutes of wifes house in the morning.
