For those with a 100% VA rating living long term in Thailand, do you tax that income in the US or Thailand or neither? How strict are they about this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Veterans with a 100% VA disability rating living in Thailand do not have to pay taxes on their benefits in either the US or Thailand, according to multiple comments. The US Social Security benefits are also exempt from Thai tax due to the Double Taxation Agreement (DTA). However, any pension income may be taxable. There are reporting requirements if you bring funds into Thailand after 180 days, but enforcement of these rules appears to be uncertain.

V.A. military retirement and social security is non taxable, don't worry about it.

If you’re referring specifically to disability it’s not taxable anyway. Pension would be taxable and once we hit 180 days we’re supposed to report any funds we bring into the country, but with the DTA shouldn’t be taxed on it. No idea how strict they are but I personally don’t play around with this stuff.
