Good day to all. I plan on visiting Thailand this summer after I retire. I want to get a feel for the place to see if this is somewhere I want to reside after my retirement. How long can stay per visit before having to leave?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The length of stay in Thailand for retirees varies based on the type of visa held. Most visitors on a visa exemption can stay for 60 days, which may be extended for an additional 30 days. For retirees, a NON-O visa offers an initial 90-day stay without needing a return ticket, which can be advantageous for exploring if Thailand is a suitable place for full relocation. Additionally, depending on your nationality, there are specific entry rules, so it's important to check the latest regulations, especially since they can change.

My apologies I will be traveling from the US. What is a non- immigrant visa ? Also, what makes a persons passport entitled to a visa exempt entry? I have so many questions

USA passport holders get 60 day visa exempt entry which can be extended by 30 days at immigration.Issue with this is that most airlines expect you to have a return ticket within the 60 day period .You qualify for a non o based on retirement which gives you a 90 day entry .Have to apply in USA before travel it’s fairly easy to do online .Major advantage is that you don’t need a return ticket so can come back when you are ready

You are obviously over 50 so get a non o visa based on retirement. This allows you to stay for 90 days .A major advantage is that you don’t need a return ticket so you can go home whenever you want

Yep. I’m currently in Vietnam. 90 day visa is the max. Have to leave and return but can do the 90 days as many times as you want , unlike Thailand.

You can also check on the Thai govt visa site to see which if any retirement visa S you can qualify for keep in mind that a major expense will be health insurance see what you qualify for and how much it will

Cost as you get older

It goes up astronomically once you hit 70 and if you have any preconditions

Since the new coalition govt was elected 3 weeks ago there is talk of changes in the policies

The 60 day visa exemption may be changed to 30 days at a moments notice

Be sure to confirm before you buy airline tickets since the Visa exempt status is on your physical entry into the country

Best to keep an eye on the official govt site often especially before booking anything non refundable

That said you should be safe to assume that 30 days with a 30 extention like it used to be should be safe

That will depend on your passport. If you are entitled to a visa exempt entry you will get stamped in for 60 days which you can extend for a further 30 days at an immigration office inside Thailand
