TLDR : Answer Summary
No, you do not need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive in Thailand if you have a Malaysian driving license. Malaysian driving licenses are recognized in Thailand without the need for an IDP, in accordance with regulations for ASEAN countries. However, it's noted that if you plan to stay longer than 30 days, you may need to obtain a Thai driving license.

What you have to be concerned about is insurance requirenents. Many have had their insurance claim rejected.

I'm a Malaysian and you do not need an IDP to drive in Thailand. But you only have 30 days to enter and exit Thailand with your vehicle.

No. 10 ASEAN countries (which Malaysia is one) are not required to have an IDP to drive in Thailand.
