Hi guys my wife is pregnant in her 3 month and the doctor advised not to travel long journeys as its dangerous for the baby - the issue is she's extended her visa already and needs to travel out the country by the end of the month.

Would immigration allow an exemption or anything like that, has anyone been in a similar situation?
Answer summary
The user is concerned about their pregnant wife's upcoming travel due to doctor warnings against long journeys. They inquire about possible exemptions from immigration for her visa situation. Community responses emphasize that immigration likely won't grant exemptions, suggest obtaining a doctor's letter to explain the situation, and advise checking airline policies regarding travel during pregnancy.

No, Immigration does not allow exemptions in situations like this.

Check with the airline as they have different rules. Single pregnancy cut off for any flying is around 36 weeks.

Get a letter from the doctor and the airline. Country of passport? Most airlines advise against travel in the third trimester.

Instead of asking on here why don’t you ask the embassy directly

Do a few shorter journeys.

Get a letter from the hospital re "not fit to fly" and immigration will fix you up...

If you use an international hospital they typically have a liaison officer who will deal with this with immigration for you

Long journey…maybe drive into Laos and reapply?

Would absolutely ask the doctor to write up a proper doctors note on why she shouldn't be traveling much, and going to Immigration with that and asking what the options are. If that doesn't work, may I suggest a rented car and a road-trip to your closest reasonable border? A rented car would decrease the stress of traveling with others and you can go at your own pace and take breaks whenever you need.

Travel or Fly? Can see where flying could be an issue, but traveling by car or train, don't understand why that would be a problem. Might ask the doctor to clarify. I'm a little confused when you say she extended her visa, do you mean she extended her visa exempt entry? Is she on an extension of stay? Or did she extended a 60 day tourist visa? Each scenario would have different rules. Also you might ask the doctor about a short 1 or 2 hour flight to a neighbor Country. Other than that the doctor would have to provide certification that it is not safe for her to travel and immigration would have to be willing to accept it.

Is your wife Thai? What country are you trying to get to? Unless she has had prior birthing problems I’m not sure why a doctor would say not fit to travel?

7 months pregnancy is where air travel companies get concerned. It is worldwide, not only Thai.

He already said the doctor advised her not to travel, so I don't think telling him she's okay to travel until 6 months is helpful, as he's already established an extenuating circumstance. There are medical exceptions for your visa. You need to take a doctor's note to immigration.

Flying in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy is not medically dangerous for a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy, and air travel does not cause miscarriage.

You can fly as long as airlines allows you to when pregnant. Usually up to 5-6 months. The only real danger is extended sitting which you can get an injection for that you can self apply. Don't know if immigration will accept a not fit to fly letter, as you could leave per land as well.

Assuming this is an uncomplicated pregnancy you can absolutely fly to a neighboring country and back.

My doctor in chiang mai issued a paper that allowed me to recieve medical visa, I did it roughly two month prior to giving birth and then once again a month after giving birth (I had minor heart issues they used to refer to why i couldn’t travel after), so I received 2 90 days medical visa and didn have to leave the country, they just converted tourist visa at the immigration center. This was in chiang mai

If there is some kind of complication making it dangerous for her (and as others have said) you could try getting a doctor to certify that she's unfit to fly. Absent such a complication however, flying when 3 months pregnant is not usually a problem.

In fact all the way up to 6 months, airlines will generally allow a person to fly without even asking for a medical certificate.

Till 6 months airlines will not ask anything.

Respect your Doctor advise flying during 2-4 months not advised since miscarriage chances are more.

Taking risk is your own choice..

I flew when 6 months pregnant. Don't think at 3 months there's an issue unless there's a medical problem.

Barath Faust as I said, unless there's a medical problem 3 months isn't usually an issue. As a woman, that's perfectly reasonable for me to say. Also, as a woman, I had a perinatal mortality of my 5 month unborn child so I'm perfectly aware that all wombs are not the same.

Unless there is something serious preventing her travelling I doubt there would be any leeway for being 3 months pregnant. If the hospital is willing to supply paperwork signed off by an official doctor at the hospital stating she is unable to travel she won't get any leeway and even then the border is not far so it would have to be absolute, not just long distances
