Opening a Thai bank account as a tourist is currently challenging, as you generally need a long-term visa (e.g., Non-O visa) to qualify. You cannot open an account online from the UK; you must be in Thailand and visit a bank in person. Requirements typically include having a valid visa, proof of residence, a Thai phone number, and possibly a lease agreement. For tourists on a short stay, alternatives like using ATMs or financial apps such as Wise or Revolut may be more convenient.

If you are entering as a tourist then you can’t get a bank account. Need a more permanent visa.

It’s a lot more complicated than people say it is. First you have to get a visa. Non o is ok. Then make appointment with bank. Or just walk in. You need a long term address. Proper ID and then there are about twenty forms to sign. All in the Thai language. It is better to have a Thai agent to help you.
I’ve just opened one, I’m from the uk. I had to show my non o visa £60 apply in Uk
A Thai phone contract, I took out one for 6 months, a lease agreement, passport, I paid 300baht for the ATM card and the customer service lady downloaded the app on my phone for me.

They have ATMs in Thailand.
No need to open a bank account.

A lot of Thai don't want to take cards due to the % they get charged, and it's not very economical to use ATMs with a non Thai bank card
It seems now all banks are only allowed to let Long Term Residents open a bank acct not for tourist staying 3mths doing regular trips

Try the Currensea card. It is linked straight to your home bank account and thus avoids some of the charges. I have just got one but have not had the opportunity to try it yet.
I changed to 65k method, needed 12 months statements individual months last years extension. Asked again and gave me different paperwork Bangkok bank so far 2 branches refused to give me what's required. I have 1 copy what I need. I will ask another branch then if refused will run visa down. I'm not jumping thru hoops as I've met criteria last 3 years done visa myself.
I have just changed to monthly payments. I was not asked for anything from my Thai bank. I printed off statements from the banking app and highlighted the transfers. I also had to provide my uk bank statements to prove where the money had come from. My Thai bank book was up dated on the day and also showed all 13 transfers. I had my Wise transfer notes at the ready too but they were not required. I got the extension with very little hassle. Bangkok Bank.
last year was easy change over. This year was told ask statements every 3 months. So far refused give me them. It's paperwork showing transfer every month from abroad, not the usual bank statements need. Also needed them basically it's same paperwork x2 but need 12 separate sheets paper.
I am not sure what your problem is. Bank statements for 12 months showing a transfer from abroad of

baht or more is what is required. You might also need to show statements from the bank the transfers originated from. I'm not sure who is refusing to give your what.
you meet the criteria this year too it's just the bank (BB) setting the new criteria to process your documents

You can’t online.
Need the correct visas, to qualify for a bank account, to be able to do so.
Best using Wise or Revolt cards.

Best to apply for a non O over 50 retirement visa through the evisa system online before yiu travel. You cannot open a thai bank account from the uk you have to be in thailand and physically go into the banks to see if they will open an account for you. Your best chance is having the O visa before you arrive. You will also need to have a thai telephone number/sim card and get a residence certificate from immigration using your TM30 from your place of stay. If you want to get the yearly extension you will need to deposit 800k baht into your new account within the first week or 2 to give it the 2 months required to season. For the non O in the uk you can show the equivalent 800k baht in uk pounds from your uk account or 65k baht monthly income in uk pounds.

No. You get your nonO in UK ( they usually require visa). Enter Thailand, go to bank and open account.

You need a long term visa to open a bank account these days and not a 60 day visa exempt entry stamp.
