Can I change my O-A visa to a Non-O visa based on retirement while traveling to Vietnam?

Good morning Thai visa advice team. I did go through the theme visa extension 50 based upon retirement but I'm still a bit unsure hence my post.

I'm currently on a O-A extention based upon marriage. It needs to be extended next month. To be honest my previous marriage extention was a nightmare. Witnesses, photos and personal house visits.

I'm flying to Vietnam next month for a week so my idea was NOT to get a reentry permit but get stamped in on return on a visa exempt for 45 days. Do my TM 30 within 24 hours of arrival. 30 days before my visa exempt runs out go to immigration with the necessary documents (I've always banked > 800k)and apply for a non O based upon retirement. Have I missed out on anything? I'd be very grateful for any comments

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on transitioning from an O-A visa based on marriage to a Non-O visa based on retirement. They plan to travel to Vietnam without a re-entry permit and return on a visa exempt for 45 days. Discussion in the comments confirms this plan is feasible, mentioning necessary steps such as applying for the Non-O visa when 30 days or less remain on their entry stamp, while also acknowledging that some requirements, like personal house visits and insurance, will remain similar.

certainly gets you off the OA and away from insurance requirements which have just increased considerably. But it might not do much for the home visits & witnesses and will do nothing about the photos. Other than insurance, the requirements for an extension are similar.

totally a workable plan (y)

-stamp out without a re-entry permit

-come in on a 45 day visa exempt entry

-apply for the 2000baht 90 day Non-O when you have 30 days or less left on your stamp

-go back after the under review period get the Non-O and new 90 day stamp inked in

-when you have 30 days or less left on that stamp go back and apply for the year extension for 1900baht based on retirement THEN get a re-entry permit if you want one

Sounds like a great workable plan ๐Ÿ™‚
