Hi everyone,

I arrived in Bangkok on a visa exemption (French national) on the 26th of November, and went to extend for 30 days at Muang Thong Thani on the 24th. I wanted to ask information about covid visa to one of the officers inside the room where you give your documents and they have you wait while they process your visa but she told me not very nicely to ask to one of the 2 screening officers outside. This one was even a couple of notches less nice and he fell short of outright screaming at me to tell me there was no covid extension for visa exemption.

But on NYE, I met someone (Russian passport) who told me she had managed on her own to get a covid visa on visa exemption thanks to the advice given in this Facebook group !! I could not get the details, but she recommended me I join, which I just did.

So could someone please confirm this is possible and how do I go about doing it without getting unlucky (?) and having an officer telling me it is not possible the day I go to get the visa?...

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French national, currently on a visa exemption, inquired about the possibility of obtaining a COVID visa extension following an unpleasant experience at a Thai immigration office. Despite being told by officials that there was no extension available for visa exempt entrants, the individual heard from a Russian national that it might be possible to secure a COVID visa extension through a Facebook group. The conversation highlights the differences between visa exemption and visa waiver statuses, particularly regarding eligibility for extensions.

One point you (or your friend) mistook is:

Your Russian friend is NOT on visa-exempt entry, Russian passport holders enter Thailand on the visa-waiver program by a bilateral agreement. Visa-exempt and visa-waiver are different.

For example, while you are on a visa-exempt entry that you are eligible to 30days tourist extension, Russian cannot apply for 30days tourist extension.

Why would you think you can get an "unable to travel" extension when you are living proof that you can travel.
