Went to extend my visa today at Patong immigration. The very happy immigration officer looked at my TM7 looked at me and said… From Liverpool? I said yes, with a cold chill going down my spine thinking something was wrong. He told me to stand for a picture, rushed from his desk and picked up a Liverpool FC ’You’ll Never Walk Alone’ poster that had ‘Patong Immigration’ also on it and made me hold it with my passport and took my ‘official’ picture with it. Who said immigration was a boring experience 😂😂

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Liverpool fan shared a humorous and memorable experience while extending their visa at Patong immigration. The friendly immigration officer, recognizing the fan's background, encouraged them to pose with a Liverpool FC poster for an 'official' photo. The incident sparked a light-hearted discussion among readers about their own amusing interactions with immigration officers in Thailand, often revolving around football and personal connections.
I had food poisoning in Vietnam. I went to the local hospital in Hoi An and was ushered straight in to see the Dr. When he found out I'm from England he went on about the EPL for about 10 minutes before realising he hadn't asked why I was there. He asked if I was a Man U fan like him and laughed when I get nooo Liverpool. I was given a big bag of tablets which I nervously worked my way through :) Still here though! :)
I went to the local Amphoe for a yellow book and pink card man behind the counter saw I was from Stoke on Trent..Stoke City Peter Crouch he shouted..photos galore and I had no problems getting my yellow book and IDcard haha.
There's a few dubious Robbie Fowler autographs knocking about in Sungai Kolok from about 22 years ago. I had to sign autographs for all the immigration officers at much annoyance to the locals travelling to work. They all kept saying Robbie Fowler, Robbie Fowler - so I obliged. I have no idea what his autograph looks like but in Sungai Kolok, it looks like mine.
Never done Patongs immigration but I do Phukets quite often and they are excellent, I do occasionally get a remark about LFC as I too am from Liverpool. But yeah as someone who has been to immigration around most of Thailand I find Phuket to be the most pleasant. Please keep it like that.
