I've got a wee update on the BKK airport situation.

I did a border bounce by air on Monday 20.

Advice on arrival time varied, Thai Air said 4, my booking company said 3 and my airline {Viet Jet} said 2. So, to be on the safe side I arrived at 7:45 for my 11:45 flight. Check in didn't open until 8:45, so 1 hour wasted. It then took me another hour to check in and clear passport control. 2 hour wait for departure and no sign of any serious queueing.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent update on navigating Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport during a border bounce highlights varied arrival time recommendations from airlines and booking companies. An expat arrived three hours early for an 11:45 flight, finding check-in opened only later, leading to unnecessary waiting. Other comments reveal experiences with different wait times at varying times of day, the importance of fast-track options for seniors and travelers needing assistance, and suggestions for using domestic flights for quicker border bounces.

Why would anyone go through that for a border bounce? You would have done far better, with less stress and less time wasted, by doing a land based border bounce. To save time, you could have flown domestically to an airport within an hours drive of an international border (such as Chiang Rai, Udon Thani or Hat Yai), taken a taxi or bus to the border (or even across, except for Mae Sai, where no cross border public transportation is offered), stamped in/out then done the same journey in reverse. You would have saved hours and probably many thousands of Baht too.

Went through last Friday and the airline wasn't even accepting bags until 3 hours before the flight. On every flight at all times of the day. So arrive earlier than 3hrs only if you want to stand around un the departure hall.

You're welcome

@Dennis Grenaghan yes its available upon departure too, which is where it's much more important. The lane is for children, business and first class passengers, monks, the elderly, disabled and requiring assistance.

No, but there is a fastrack system at arrivals in BKK. The lady supervising the massive queue at passport control, took my passport and took me over to the fastrack, I was through in about 5 minutes.

I suspect it was less to do with my dashing good looks, and more to do with me being an old codger.

Yup. I was in there twice in Feb. Depends on the time of day. One flight it was a ghost town, the second was a nightmare.
