Update: Extension request rejected.
I'm a US passport holder and entered Thailand mid-March last year so I've been here for almost a year. Initially entered visa exempt, but had a Non-Imm (ED) visa at one point so I knew that I wouldn't qualify for another COVID-19 extension, but tried going anyways hoping for an exception because I had obtained a visa to another country. The only issue is that the visa stipulates that I'm only allowed to enter the country between March 17th - March 20th. I tried to show good faith by providing a copy of my original return flight (and how it was booked as a round trip), e-mail of the flight being cancelled by the airline, receipt of my current visa, paperwork stipulating the specified entry dates, my newly booked flight, and Thai banks statements going back 3 months to prove that I'm not working here illegally.
The immigration officer only skimmed my paperwork and I did try to verbally explain my situation since they seemed confused about the documents I provided. Explained how it was my original return flight but it was cancelled by the airline and how I have a visa to another country but can't leave immediately because they won't let me enter until said dates. The whole interaction took only 2 or 3 minutes before they just turned me away and said I would have to pay 500 baht a day if I overstay.
For some reason they didn't even give me a 7 day extension of stay denied stamp and I wasn't sure if it was because I would have to leave by day 7 with no exceptions or risk getting deported and if the penalties would be more harsh so I didn't want to push for it and ask.
Just thought I'd let anyone know to save themselves the trip since there doesn't seem to be any exceptions.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder recently had their visa extension request rejected after nearly a year in Thailand. They initially entered visa-exempt but had previously held a Non-Immigrant (ED) visa. The individual attempted to appeal due to circumstances involving a canceled flight and a visa to another country but was denied after a short interaction with immigration officials. The officer provided no extension and mentioned potential overstay penalties.
