What is the best bank account for a Non-O Retirement visa? Which is the overall best considering the ease of account opening, the 800,000 THB bank transfer, exchange rate markups, getting all supporting forms and documentation for Immigration, account maintenance, features, and ease of use for everyday transactions, etc.?

Q2. Are there any downsides of having multiple Thai accounts?
Answer summary
The best bank account for a Non-O Retirement visa is widely considered to be Kasikorn Bank, according to multiple user experiences. Factors influencing this opinion include ease of account opening, account maintenance, availability of required documentation for immigration, and overall service reliability. Users noted that having multiple accounts can be beneficial for managing funds—keeping 800,000 THB earmarked in one account while using another for everyday expenses. While some expats have used Bangkok Bank successfully, many agree that Kasikorn provides superior support, especially regarding documentation needed for visa renewal. However, the ease of banking can vary by branch, and it's advisable to be prepared for occasional bureaucratic challenges.

The very very best bank is the one that is willing to give you an account. That’s all.

Consider yourself very fortunate to be able to live in Thailand .

I have an account at Krungsri that is a joint savings with my wife and an individual account - I keep my 800 there for immigration and Siam Commercial that I use for my building money, our contractor uses Siam it makes it easy and keeps our money separated … my wife has a separate account at Krungthai that we use for everyday stuff.

Then we have a Charles Schwab investment account still in the states.

Krungsri was my first account to open they were very easy and give us excellent service every time we go in…. Siam took about two weeks to get opened… it is a process there … and the Krungthai is easy for the wife as there is an office right where we live …. Krungsri & Siam are 30 minute drive away.

Most banks will only issue one saving account to a foreigner. You can choose a fixed account which would be accepted by immigration. But interest is shitty..

Kasikorn worked like a charm and they're always willing to help you. Mind you, every branch of every bank does their own thing, so this might be different wherever you are

Agree with other comments, Kasikorn appears to the the best. I found it quite easy to open an account with Kasikorn but sometimes you get a bank worker who just wants to make it difficult or doesn't know how to do it so just says that it's not possible. It appears to be a common thing in Asia, not just Thailand, that if someone doesn't know they just say 'not possible' or 'just 'no' because if they admit they don't know they are worried that they will lose face. I have 2 accounts, one for the visa funds that you don't touch and the other for living expenses and that way I don't drop below the required limit. I transfer all my money from UK to the visa account and then transfer via the phone app to the living expenses account and that way the visa account shows the transfers (not been necessary so far) and the activity keeps the account active so Kasikorn don't think that it's a dead account and lock it. Also Kasikorn are able to produce a 12 month statement on demand unlike some other banks that have to get them from head office and need about 2 weeks notice. Kasikorn can also produce the statement and letter for the annual extension at ANY branch not just the one the account is at/ I have my visa account in Pattaya but now live in Khon Kaen and just go to any branch in Khon Kaen get the letter & statement of my Pattaya account on the way to immigration for the renewal. I'm sure that other banks can do the same but I can only talk about my experiences with Kasikorn bank.

Give consideration to a Krungthai FCD account in whichever currency is suitable. At least you'll get interest eg. gbp 2.5% and 3.8%...

I am still with Bkk bank and have had no problems to date, but...if I was arriving tomorrow I would use Kasikorn.

Other than the reasons already given, I think all Wise transfers go via Kasikorn bank, so I think that makes it easier if you ever have problems with the way money is shown as international transfer (someone will explain this better than me!).

I can recommend Kasikorn Bank - no problems at all opening two accounts there. Non-O Retirement. Excellent, intuitive application, fully supported in English, and more than enough for all day-to-day activities. The feedback is 1 week old :)

Having multiple accounts is a benefit.

If something happens to one of them, you have a backup.

For Me, one of them has my 800 K, the other is my spending money
