DTV Workation, EU Citizen, remote business started few years ago.

5th May - I arrived to Hanoi

8th May - I applied for DTV for workation

13th May - status changed to pending approval

15th May - rejected (no reason given). I went to embassy and asked them personally, after she checked my document, she said - "Change an embassy". That was a bit ridiculous but I did what she said.

23rd May - I arrived to Vientiane (Laos)

24th May - I applied again

26th May - I was asked for an additional document which I provided but in better quality (passport bio page)

26th May after about 1 hour - status changed to pending approval

26th May after another 1 hour - I was invited for interview

5th June - Interview and visa approved.

Interview Question:

* What kind of plans do you have to spend time in Thailand?

* Show me account with your invoice payments

* Show me account where you have a balance over 500k

* Show me what do you do, examples of your work

Key tips:

* Dress well, be polite and elegant, very important thing in my opinion

* Take your laptop or print everything what you have provided

* Double check if your mobile apps are working to show your statements or bank balance

* Smile (yes, really), don't go there like you would go to jail, this helps in my opinion

I hope that will help other people.

It just depends on what they want from one minute to the next.

I just got a tm30 receipt from the Chiang Mai office and she specifically mentioned you need to file a new tm30 everytime you leave to go somewhere else and then return to the same previous tm30 address.

The tm30 immigration officer also asked for a lease agreement before she would issue a tm30 receipt.

I'm in the jurisdiction of Jonjiem immigration and also on a long-term visa, I haven't had to do a TM30 in 3 years, I was told "no problem" I've travelled internationally a few times.

In the TM30 system is my old adress from 1,5 years ago. But I get a residence certificate on my new adress, have a yellow housebook on my new adress but I think TM30 doesn't matter so much any more.

By the book you need to update address within 24 hours of return ... (why the airport system doesn't do it on arrival I don't know ?? ) ... your address will also change if you check into a hotel using passport so take care ....

If you fail to do it, you risk an angry agent telling you that it was required.

This is one of the biggest complaints and part of the charm of Thailand- rules change hourly, by person, and by province.

In Chiang Mai not necessarily to report if returning to the same address- but they won’t put the policy in writing. I think it just makes their job easier, but it’s not officially authorized.

Online reporting is probably the best compromise.

Martin Baker I was trying to do my 90 day report same office used for nigh on 25 years and IO refused to do it unless my Mrs came "right now" and did the TM-30, lucky we are not too far away.. She drove to immigration, got a lecture off the IO and did the TM30, paid the THB 500 and I could do my 90 day... 😂

I think in the past the immigration systems were not linked properly with all the data, but now they are, and they could see I had a TDAC in the system as we have to do them even coming in from offshore in the Gulf of Thailand these days, so I guess that's what flagged the things

An active tm30 must exist in the system. (Today is less or equal to checkout date). You do not legally need to complete a new one every trip if you returned to your previously registered adress and its before the checkout date. Just keep a copy of the tm30 and last 90 day report in your passport and your covered if they want to see a hard copy. Some IO's will require a new TM30 if the existing one is old, i always update mine once a year for my extension regardless of trips.

I have an OA and I did not need a re-entry permit.
Steven ***************

John Tidona Non-OA visa is multiple entry good for 1 year, after that the visa is dead, expired, finished, if you want to remain in The Kingdom you apply for an, Extension Of Stay each subsequent year and extensions of stay require reentry permits.

Steven L. Daugherty not true. You can get a second year on an expired Non-O/A Visa, if your do a border run just before the visa validity expires. If your health insurance is valid for another year, you get stamped in for another 365 days stay permit. You don't have a re-entry permit in the second year so if you wish to travel abroad, you would need to buy a re-entry permit in order to keep the stay permit active. Only nearing the end of the second year, if you want to continue living in Thailand, you would need to apply for the 1-year extension of stay permit.

Steven Burton The actual OA visa is only valid for one year. It is multiple entry. Once the visa expires a re-entry permit is required
