Work visa doesn't matter.

You need a job first. Your employer gives you the paperwork to get the work visa and they apply for the work permit.

No job, no visa.

Ah - now you get it.

Yes, it possible for a foreigner to legally work in Thailand.

Just as it is possible for you to become the star player on Pakistan's football team.

In the best of times, Thailand is a difficult place for foreigners to find employment in Thailand.

And these are not the best of times.

๐Ÿ“Œ Non-Immigrant B Visa (Business)

What it is

A visa for foreigners who intend to work, teach, or conduct business in Thailand. It allows you to apply for a Work Permit at the Ministry of Labour.

How to apply

Job offer in Thailand โ†’ You need a sponsoring employer.

Documents from employer (often required):

Job offer/contract letter.

Company registration documents.

Tax documents and company information.

Proof that the company meets requirements (e.g., minimum number of Thai employees per foreigner).

Apply at a Thai embassy/consulate in your home country (e.g., Oslo, Stockholm, etc.).

Validity and stay

Usually issued as a 90-day Non-B visa initially.

After you obtain a work permit in Thailand, you can apply at Immigration for a 1-year extension of stay.

Renewable annually as long as employment continues.

Employer requirements

Must be a registered company in Thailand.

General rule: 4 Thai employees per foreigner + minimum 2 million THB registered capital.

Must show legitimate need for foreign expertise.

Common uses

Foreign teachers in schools/universities.

Foreign experts/specialists.

Business professionals working with Thai companies.

Important notes

You must also obtain a work permit after arrival โ€“ the visa alone does not allow you to work.

You must report your address to Immigration every 90 days (90-day reporting).

If you lose your job, you lose the visa basis โ€“ you must either find a new employer quickly or leave Thailand.

If you know your employer is going to give you the necessary paperwork for a work visa, it's best to go to Thailand, get everything sorted out there, and then head to immigration to get stamped in once you have your work permit with a work visa
