I would check out Airbnb or serviced apartments in the neighborhood that you want to stay. I personally moved to the Chit Lom/Ratchadamri/Langsuan area of Bangkok and it is wonderful for sky train access, shopping, restaurants, and just a pleasant area of the city to hang out.
You get the visa before arriving ( like most countries) so you can open a bank account. Then go get 12 month extension of stay. Why are you flying in without the visa?
