is there an ATM before customs at BKK tia
Answer summary
There are no ATMs before immigration at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. The first ATM can be found in the baggage claim area, which is after immigration. Travelers are advised to carry cash equivalent to at least 20,000 baht (or its foreign currency equivalent) to satisfy immigration requirements, as it is unlikely that cash cards will suffice for entry.

Any CASH from any currency equal to Thai baht amount is all that is required.

The issue about the need to have 20k Baht on you on arrival gets mentioned here often. Surely all it needs is for an ATM to be installed prior to immigration so those who forgot or didn't know about the rule could withdraw enough money to satisfy the requirements. A simple solution to solve a problem.

Last time I came through BKK (~1 month ago) I thought I would get some cash while waiting for my bags. While there are lots of ATMs in the baggage claim area, they all seemed to only accept a Visa charge card, i.e. a cash advance. I could not find one that would take my Thai or US bank cards until I got outside the terminal.

Sorry, not clueless at all, I just wouldn’t carry a large wad of cash while travelling either. Paul is quite possibly thinking the same, hence his question about the ATM prior to the small possibility of being asked to show at immigration but you launch into him like he’s a poor person, unworthy of being allowed in Thailand. I am far from being short of money but would have probably asked that question to as a work around to unnecessarily carrying large sums of cash. Your attitude stinks and it would be great if people like you took that attitude elsewhere.

SunnyCaterpillar9671 what’s normal sunshine ? In my 50 something visits to Thailand , only once did I take money from an airport ATM . They just rob you . Jump in a taxi with your Farang money and go to a money changer on the way .

Brent Rothsay go to the bottom floor change some like £30-50 pound, what you going lose about 50p or £1 😂 if that worries you and would affect your holiday you can’t afford a holiday we’re talking about $1 dollar USD 😂

If you’re a genuine visitor with a return flight they’re not likely to ask. But just in case bring your own currency to the value of 20,000 bht. That’s about £500. It’s cheaper to change cash than to use an ATM which has a high withdrawal fee. There are ATM’s but none before immigration.

Just don’t exchange at the airport kiosks, unless it’s at SuperRich downstairs
Mick *********

Richard Hornby that’s correct. But it does depend on arrival time as super rich closes at night. If arriving at night just exchange a smaller amount to get you by til you can find a decent exchange place during the day.

Andy Baum I have my wise card that has plenty of money on that …. Once I’m in I withdraw cash from the ATM … the exchange rates in Australia are ridiculous compared to Thailand… about 4 baht to the dollar lower than what I get in Thailand or on my wise card

Chris Blunt - You can show the equivalent in any major currency , it doesn’t have to be in baht !!!
Chris *******

@Simon *****
But there's no ATM before immigration, so if you are asked to show money, you don't have the opportunity to withdraw cash from an ATM. If there were an ATM before you got to immigration, this would solve the problem, but maybe that's too simple a solution.
Simon *****

you need to present CASH if being asked. Even millions in your Wise card won’t help. This is the rule.

Yes, there are ATM’s in the Arrivals baggage carousel area before the Customs check. However, they are after Immigration, so they will not help you to demonstrate carrying cash to the Immigration Officer.

If you are worried about the 20,000 baht rule dontJust bring £500 or more in UK cash.Cheaper than using an ATM here anyway

Are there any UK banks or brokerage houses tha reimburse ATM fees? I have a Schwab account (US) and all ATM fees are reimbursed at the same time they’re debited. I believe other US brokerage firms have instituted the same policy. I’d think UK firms would do the same.
