Is the new health insurance requirement for Non-OA visa renewal in effect, and can I use international insurance?

Just received this message from my health insurance company. Does anyone know if this in effect yet? Does immigration still mandate a Thai insurance company or can we show international health insurance certificate? We live in Hua Hin and due to renew O-A October 13 - many thanks!

It has come to our attention that there are already immigration offices in certain provinces asking for the 3,000,000 THB certificate for the renewal of your non-OA visa. In some provinces however, immigration still accepts the ‘old’ 400,000/40,000 THB certificate. We therefore kindly advise you to first check with your local immigration office which insurance certificate is needed for the renewal of your non-OA visa,

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the recent health insurance requirements for renewing a Non-OA visa in Thailand. It highlights that some immigration offices may request a health insurance certificate of 3,000,000 THB (approximately $100,000), while others might still accept the older requirement of 400,000/40,000 THB. The author seeks clarification on whether international health insurance is accepted or if a Thai insurance policy is mandatory. Comments suggest that foreign insurance may be usable with proper documentation but recommend considering Thai insurance options. Additionally, a strategy to apply for a Non-O retirement visa is mentioned, which does not have specific insurance requirements.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

Do yourself a favour and leave then re-enter and apply for a Non-O retirement visa which still has the same financial requirements as a Non-OA but no insurance requirements so you choose insurance to suit your needs not theirs.

As far as showing proof of having the insurance with a foreign carrier, This is the form you have to have them fill out <- and that is where most people with foreign insurance come unstuck because that's the ONLY insurance form that immigrations accepts and few overseas insurance companies will sign it

It's on the Long Stay website here

here's the link to the form

in the first two years you can squeeze from a Non-Imm-O/A visa, Immigration will accept an overseas insurance (as long as they sign the F.I.C.). However when you move from the visa to the "12-months Extension of Stay Permit" beginning from the third year, Immigration only accepts a tgia-listed Thai private health insurance

the insurance requirement is $100K or 3 million baht. You can use a non Thai insurance policy but you need to get a letter from your insurance company clarifying the amount and many overseas insurance companies don’t like doing it. Some of my clients have told me they were declined due to the maximum coverage amount not being in USD$. To make it simple I would recommend you buy directly online with AXA Thailand who are one of the approved suppliers, no need to go through an agent, here is the link.

You’ll need a full year of insurance with one of there approved Thai insurance companies, that’s why I went back to the non-o

Isn't there an issue with foreign health insurance companies signing the required certificate? Much easier to buy using the Thai website

Do you know which company on the Thai website is offering the most affordable plans?

It has been 100K USD (3mil Thai baht) mandatory health insurance for OA Visa extensions in country for more than a few years. (it was announced Oct 1st 2021) but I think they didn't implement it then

I don't you know how your insurance company could not know this if they issue OA insurance. 🙁

That some offices still accepted the 440k baht insurance level was their mistake

You need to go to your immigration office and see what they say or post on a group related to that area.
