Hi , I have been informed that for a retirement visa (uk citizen at present) that the 800,000thb required for 2 months in a Thai bank account prior to application is going to be extended to 3 months starting in August 2019 .. is this true please?? It has also been suggested that the multi entry visa may be abolished,but no date given .. again anyone know if this is true or just false information? Many thanks..

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry concerns potential changes to the retirement visa rules for UK citizens, specifically whether the bank balance requirement will extend from 2 to 3 months and if the multi-entry visa might be abolished. Comments clarify that the 800,000 THB is required for an extension of stay rather than a visa and specify the existing duration requirements. Additionally, it is noted that changes to multi-entry visas are unlikely, with recommendations to acquire a long-stay visa from a consulate before arriving in Thailand.

just looked at the Thai Embassy London and the application form was;
**********************************************************************
%20Stay.pdf What I cannot find on their site is the additional requirements as I thought Police reports, medical reports and bank statements were required. The form as per the PDF looks to be self certified? I am guessing that is not the case and there will be other requirements. thanks

don't look at the application form, look at the link that

, just so we're clear. Getting that O-A visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you come here is far superior to getting a 90 day Non-O visa and then a yearly extension of stay <- which is what you really get INSIDE the country even though it's called a "retirement visa" :/ .

You can do it all from your country and when you show up with that visa in your passport you will be stamped in for a whole year. The visa is unlimited entry/exit for the validity of it (a year from the date it's issued) and every entry to the country gets you stamped in for a whole new year.

Exiting and re-entering just before the visa expires gets you stamped in for another year (giving you two years of stay out of a visa that's valid for a year)

There's no comparison between what you can get in country and an O-A you get in your country before you come here.

Good Luck (y)

I would say get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you come back here and you'll be set for almost 2 years of stay on a one year visa without ever banking any money in a thai bank or doing anything more than 90 day reporting at the immigration office.

I have done exactly what
@Tod ********
had explained about O-A visa and I'm now here in TH. All easy going and 100% correct.

Again many thanks for the information,, it can be confusing as to what is correct,, having seen numerous agencies offering services to help get visas of different types, and most of them state the Money in bank scenarios.. I will investigate your suggestion as having that amount of money tied up in a bank account does appear a little extreme.. options of interest many thanks

Multi-entry VISAS are not sold by the thai immigration offices inside the country but by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office at the thai consulates OUTSIDE the country. There's nothing "in the wind" that would indicate that they are going to discontinue or change their policy on visas, they're sold as a single or a multiple entry.

Thanks I look forward to coming next year and hopefully being granted a retirement visa.. the information came from Thai immigration via an expat . No doubt he was not understanding the explanation regarding his situation regarding visa

I dunno who's doing the "informing" but they are sadly misinformed :O

Using 800K baht banked money for the proof of funds for an EXTENSION OF STAY (not a visa of any kind) has had a seasoning requirement for the first yearly extension of 60 days (NOT two months) and for every subsequent year for 3 months (NOT 90 days).
