I chose the soft power Muay Thai route. Honestly, when I see all the people struggling with the documents they need to provide to prove they are a digital nomad, why not just contact a gym that has DTV experience and provides all the required paperwork, even if you qualify as a freelancer?
Arrived in Hanoi on March 2 (Sunday) and turned in my online application at 6pm. I received the approval email exactly one week later on March 9 at 4pm (another Sunday). So it was five working days plus the weekend and if not automated, yes they seem to work on Sundays!
I provided picture of Vietnam entry stamp, hotel reservations, flight confirmation, 6 months of bank statements with over 500k, screenshots of my latest weekly bank emails and online banking site with the date of application visible. For good measure, I also included a letter of employment confirmation and 6 months of payslips and a cover letter. Merged and resized the documents with “I Love PDF” online.
After two days, my status went from document check to pending approval. Then nothing anymore until the visa was sent. No interview or additional documentation request. I entered Thailand yesterday through Don Muang and was given the 6 months stamp no questions asked in less than 2 minutes at the immigration counter.
I hope, this helps. Thanks to everyone for their valuable input, especially the experts. I have been reading these posts since last year July as I was planning to apply as soon as I could. Any questions, I will be happy to help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author successfully applied for a Thailand visa by utilizing the Muay Thai route as a digital nomad. They submitted their online application with comprehensive documentation, including bank statements, employment confirmation, and travel details. The approval came within a week, and entry into Thailand was smooth, receiving a six-month stamp at immigration. The post emphasizes collaboration with a gym experienced in visa processes to alleviate the burden of documentation typically required for digital nomads.
Did they ask you to show the ticket flight for when you go to Thailand ? And did they ask for proof of accommodation in Thailand for all period of stay ?
not sure if that was the reason. Their website says, average is 3 business days for e-visa. Our group consensus is five business days so I booked a 9 day trip. I would have called the embassy on Monday, if my request would still have been pending and asked how to proceed.
Anonymous participant 674 it’s not necessary to sign up for a new course, as long as you re-enter the country and don’t ask for a 180 day extension inside the Kingdom
Anonymous participant Each visa has its own purpose, and a Muay Thai DTV is intended for those attending Muay Thai classes. It’s similar to holding a student visa without actually attending classes; at some point, you may have difficulty proving your entitlement if immigration questions you.
Most people aren’t asked to show documents when crossing the border, but that doesn’t mean immigration won’t check later. I’ve seen some cases, though not many so far, where people were required to provide documents (for workation and soft power visas).
Keep in mind that when extending your stay in Thailand, you must demonstrate ongoing activity, which sets immigration’s expectations.
Participant(e) anonyme This is not so sure dude. Many DTV holders reported on this group that IO wanted to see a valid course when re-enter the country. Which make sense. You can't apply for a 5 years visa and only attend to 6 months course...
you are usually on top of things. Is it accurate, that people in this group have reported that they needed to prove a current soft power appointment upon re-entry? Thanks for your help.
Anonymous participant From reports on here it is people having to show work contracts. Especially if they didn't apply in their home country and spent a lot of time here previously.
Anonymous participant Yes, some have been asked to show evidence of continued SP activity on arrival. SP is the most common form of bogus applications and there has been a clampdown since late last year from application to reentry on this option. There are random stops, not all entrants will be asked but it is a big risk not to have evidence of continued activity on arrival for SPers.
True and logical. Immigration has set clear expectations with specific requirements for visa extensions in Thailand. More frequent checks will likely come with time. It has happened with other visas, and the same could happen with the DTV.
Participant anonyme 674 It seems logical IF he didn't go class anymore. The contract when given this visa is to follow the courses during your stay. This is the problem when applying with soft power. You'll have to buy course every time you enter OR take the risk to get denied entry.
Anonymous participant that's really interesting- I keep running into the same problem: digital nomad visas that ask yo to prove residency somewhere to obtain them..maybe soft power is the way to go
i don't want to be "the boring guy in the room" but there is no such thing as a "true" digital nomad. You are supposed to pay your tax somewhere. You can read this excellent article to understand the concept
