Hi All

I will be applying for my O-A visa from here in the UK in a couple of weeks at the Embassy in London.

My question is about the funds.

I currently have the required £20000 in an ISA account in a building society, do I need to move the funds to a bank account to get my proof of funds letter or can I leave it where it is and ask the building society for a letter/statement ?

Thanking you in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
Keith Green is seeking guidance on whether he can use the funds in his ISA account to demonstrate proof of financial requirements for his O-A visa application at the Thai Embassy in London. He holds the necessary £20,000 but is unsure if he needs to transfer it to a bank account or if a letter or statement from the building society holding the ISA will suffice. Comments suggest that it is crucial to show that the funds are accessible, with some members advising to check directly with the embassy.

When I was in London applying for my regular Non O, the guy before me had his main bank account which didn't have enough funds in it. He then showed a 2nd statement (not sure where from) which covered the financial requirements. So as long as you can prove you have the funds and they aren't locked in and can be withdrawn you may be OK. Can't guarantee though I am afraid.

Thanks Jonathan

Best to ask the embassy where you will be applying. If I had to guess, I would go with the bank account.

Where does it say you need a letter from the bank?

All you need is the bank statement showing you have over 800K baht (or the equivalent) in your account

A building society is roughly midway between a bank and a Credit Union.

Didn’t I see on the consulate site in Cambodia or Immigration that proof of funds must be certified, whatever that means. Can’t check now but that’s my recollection.

We used a current account statement, but they only seemed to glance at the bottom line. Would perhaps only be a problem if the ISA is locked in for x years.

Thanks anyway Tod, any advice is welcome as I’ve not been through this process before 👍🏼

@Keith ******
, It would seem that way reading the weblink below, but I'm not dialed in as far as what a building society is, I mean is it a financial institution?

The bad thing is that consulate is hard to get on the phone or to answer emails but I'd contact them anyway and ask.

Or hopefully some members from the UK who've done this process will weigh in

Sorry :/

Thanks Tod, so does that mean I can provide a statement from my building society?
