My wife and I are from USA and arrived on a Non-Immigrant O Visa at the end of July. On a prior visit, 6 months ago, both my wife and I opened two bank accounts at the Kasikorn Bank branch on Sukhumvit soi 33 in Bangkok and since then our 800K baht in each account has been there for 4 months. We have rented a house in Pattaya and have been there since the middle of September. This past week I read that for purpose of an individual applying for an extended stay permit at the Jomtien immigration office, they want the 800K in a bank branch located in Pattaya or at lease the local providence. My first question is if this is correct and if so want path do I take to get our extended stay permits? My second question is the following. If I don't have to have the bank branch located in Pattaya, can I go to a local Kasikorn Bank branch in Pattaya and get the paperwork I need from the bank verifying my 800K?My wife and I are from USA and arrived on a Non-Immigrant O Visa at the end of July. Answer summary
A couple from the USA, currently in Thailand on a Non-Immigrant O Visa, is inquiring about the requirement of having their 800K baht deposited in a local bank branch in Pattaya to apply for an extended stay permit. While some comments suggest it is not necessary, and that any Kasikorn Bank branch can provide the required paperwork, another commenter mentioned having successfully completed similar extensions in other provinces. Clarification on the requirements at the Jomtien immigration office seems needed.

My account with the 800k is in Pattaya and I now live in Khon Kaen and have done the last 3 extensions in Khon Kaen by going to a Khon Kaen branceh of Kasikorn (different one each time as I chose the nearest one on the way to Immigration) and got the bank paperwork and have not had any problems so I don't know if it's a requirement that's just being applied in Jomtien or just not true.

Malcolm Whitlock Hi Malcolm. What paperwork is required for the extension? Won't they accept an updated bankbook? or ATM slip or is there something that needs to be got from inside the branch

I would check with your local Immigration office as it can vary but what I have had to supply both in Pattaya and Khon Kaen from the bank is a letter that states the account belongs to you at the correct address (I think but not sure as it's all in Thai, just ask for the letter for immigration) plus a 12 month statement (or I guess 2 months if it's your first) and a photocopy of your bankbook with an entry for the day you are applying. The statement shows all transaction where as if you only update the book infrequently it will bunch a lot of transactions into 1 but it can be 2 weeks old for some banks and the bankbook shows the current balance for that day so you need to make a transaction and update the book on the way. Then obviously there are all the other forms and documents which again can change depending on where you are applying.

I'm not sure where you read that, but it's not true at all. One Thai bank account is as good as another. You can go into any Kasikorn branch and get the paperwork you need for your extension.

The only thing your home branch dictates is ATM fees. ATM withdrawals are free in the province you opened your account in, but can cost money in a different province (10-20 baht per transaction). Some accounts offer a certain amount of free out of province transactions per month. And if you use your bank's ATM, withdrawals using your phone app instead of ATM card are always free.
