Has anyone here had success transferring from a Retirement visa into a permanent residency visa after three consecutive years of visa renewals? We are open to paying Thailand tax to make us more desirable by the Thai government. We are both US citizens. We've lived outside of the US for the last ten years. We have fallen in love with Thailand and we rent a condo in Bangkok. Trying to find a way to stay in Thailand permanently. :)

We would love to have permanent permission to stay in Thailand eventually.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community clarified that individuals on a Retirement visa are generally not eligible for permanent residency in Thailand. To qualify for PR, one needs to have been employed in Thailand for at least three years, pay income taxes, and fulfill additional requirements such as language proficiency. Therefore, it is not possible to transition from a Retirement visa to permanent residency solely based on consecutive visa renewals.

I think you alao need to be able to read and write Thai

I knew a bloke who got it, he was married to a Thai and had been there working for 10 years. Had to read and write too.

Plain and simple, someone on a retirement visa will never be eligible for permanent residency.

To qualify for PR or Citizenship, you must have a job in Thailand and pay Thai income taxes for multiple years. No job, no income taxes, no PR.

You can remain in Thailand indefinitely through continued annual extensions based on being over 50 (retirement).
