Can I use an online bank account like Ally for a 90-day Non-O retirement visa application in Thailand?

Okay, to apply for a 90-day non O retirement visa while I’m in the USA I need at least two (maybe 3) bank statements showing I have at least 800,000 baht. My question is would an account with one of those “online only” banks be acceptable? Ally is one example. Thanks everybody.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry is about using an online-only bank, specifically Ally Bank, to provide bank statements for a 90-day non O retirement visa application while in the USA. Responses indicate that online banks are generally acceptable as banks, provided the funds have been in the account for the required duration; however, there is some concern that the money might need to be held in a Thai bank.

As far as I know the money has to be in a thai bank,

He needs it in a bank from his country to get the type of visa but once he gets here to get the retirement visa, he needs to have it in a Thai bank. For my marriage visa I have to have it in for two months. I just started that two monthsMonday that’s per my visa agent.

completely wrong. It has to be in a Thai bank to get the 1 year extension, but for the initial Non-O retirement visa, a bank in your home country will suffice.

I highly recommend using a visa agent. It saved me a lot of headaches. They had all the paperwork ready. It was amazing. I was able to go open my bank account in a short amount of time other people that were open in bank accounts without all the paperwork that was prepared for me by the Visa agent spent a long time getting the account open.

The only 'issue' we had opening our Thai bank account was that they wanted a "letter or statement" saying that we are retired. Since no such thing exists in the States, we just showed last year's tax return showing zero income (from wages). After that it was just a matter of them stamping papers and us signing them.

Agreed and understood. But prior to applying for the non O the funds need to be in my USA account for two or three months I believe.

well - when I applied for my non-o - which I did several times - I always used the annual tax report - no problems.

Yes, last 3 months statements from your USA bank. My statements, 3 months, online printout, concatenated into a single .pdf file, from a Japanese bank, were fine. I got the eVisa.

funds only need seasoning for an extension in country, not to buy the visa.

Just check out the requirements on the Thai E-visa website. I don't know which embassy or consulate you belong to in the US.

@Doug ******
I can't say for sure as each embassy has its own requirements. We applied from Ho Chi Minh City and they only required the most recent statement showing a minimum of 800k Thai baht.

same as Laos. They asked for the last 3 months of statements but the most recent statement is the one that had to show 800k. It tripped me up at first as well because I kept overlooking the key word "currently". I feel like they ask for 3 months of statements just to verify it really is your account, I'm probably wrong just my opinion.

Thai bank for extension

Need to show the money has been in the account for the required months but shd be fine

@Will *****
no seasoning requirement for the visa, only for the extension once inside Thailand, and the money will need to be seasoned in a Thai bank for the extension

I know you are an excellent contributor here but the info you offer contradicts everything I’ve researched. Please provide your sources if you don’t mind. I hope you are correct. 🙏👍

I came over here on a 90 day non-o from the L.A. (US) office in May. You just need to provide proof of 800k available in the account from your most recent statement. They might ask for 3 months worth of statements but only the last statement has to prove you currently have 800k in the account.

Thanks a lot for this info. Did you do all the application just online? If so, do the bank statements Need to be sent in PDF format? And how long from finishing the application until you received the visa? Thanks again.

@Doug ******
when I did the 90 day non-o in Washington using the L.A. office it took about 10 days for an approval. When I did it in Laos , they killed it in 4 days and that was ony because I didn't send what they needed. If I had I, truly believe it would have been accomplished the same day. I did have a problem with my files being to big and I found a file compressor online for free that made it work. If I had that knowledge ahead of time I could have saved so much time. Best of luck to you.

you have been banging your head against this wall for at least a week. There is no seasoning of the 800K funding requirement for an out of country non O based on being over 50. You simply show the money, you don't need to show it sitting in the account for x days, weeks, months.

She is correct and maybe you should stop using ChatGPT. Just saying.

You're totally clueless when it comes to visas and requirements and you're questioning people that knows. Either you're listening to wrong people or you're reading stuff from questionable websites or forums. If I were you I wouldn't argue about stuff you know nothing about.

Yes that should be fine. It's still a regular bank.
