Can I transition from an O-A visa to an O visa using a monthly income requirement and what happens if I leave Thailand without a reentry permit?

I have 2 Q‘s regarding obtaining an O visa. I have stayed in Thailand many years on an O-A - US passport.

1. Many responses here talk of the 800,000 baht bank deposit. Does an O accept the over 65,000/month income threshold that an O-A accepts?

2. Some responses have mentioned leaving Thailand about the time the last extension expires. If you leave Thailand on an O-A but without a reentry permit isn’t your O-A automatically invalidated? Thus requiring a tourist visa upon reentry.

Thanks for clarifying.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about transitioning from an O-A visa to an O visa, specifically whether the O visa accepts the 65,000 baht monthly income requirement like the O-A. Additionally, they seek clarification on the implications of leaving Thailand without a reentry permit while on an O-A visa and the necessity of obtaining a tourist visa upon reentry. Responses highlight that the O visa has stricter requirements regarding monthly income and that leaving the country without a reentry permit automatically invalidates the O-A visa, necessitating a tourist visa for reentry.

Just for clarity for those who have the option, would the proof of income letter from your embassy work for #1?

the proof of income letter from your embassy here would indeed work IF that is something your embassy issues here.

1 you would have to transfer in 65K baht a month each month every month for the previous 12 months before you apply for a yearly extension using monthly income. and that means you can't do it for the first year extension on an O visa you'd have to use banked money

2 - the whole purpose of bouncing out and back just when the OA visa is expiring is to get off it because you can't get an O visa inside the country when you're on an OA entry stamp or extension.

So yes, you either come back in on a free visa exempt entry OR you buy a tourist visa at a nearby thai consulate before you come back in. Then apply in country for the 90 day Non-O visa and after that the year extension.
