My goodness I've gone 1 - 2 times a year on visa free and never been asked for anything other than where I am living. Last time they asked me how long I was staying and if I had a ticket and I showed them a picture of a friend's boat and told them I was sailing out to Langkawi. No problem.
count your stays during the previous 12 months. If the total stay exceeds 157 days within a 12-month period, you will be denied entry on any touristic visa or visa exempt
I always wondered whether that requirement meant the amount had to be carried in cash, or would a wallet full of credit cards have any effect on the matter. Just asking, as many folks are heavily dependent on their credit cards for travel. :-)
That stamp just means you were denied entry for having insufficient funds. All of your previous history is available to the immigration officer when you are standing in front of him. Insufficient funds is often used as an excuse for the denial of entry rather than it being the real reason though so the question really is what is your history of visiting and spending time inside Thailand over the past 12 to 18 months?
