I would really appreciate any suggestion...thank you very much in advance ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
A person with a retirement visa in Thailand is seeking clarification on whether they can serve as president of a non-profit association and if they need a work permit for this role. The comments advise that while high-level roles may not require a work permit, practical activity could. It's recommended to consult with a lawyer familiar with immigration and labor laws for accurate guidance.

If all else fails, get the treasurer or the secretary of the association to do it.

You're better off having a lawyer who knows the ins and outs of immigration and labor department law advise you.

However, my understanding is that the law was amended a few years ago, allowing foreign directors of companies the right to do certain activities such as sign documents and attend meetings without the need for a work permit.

To advise you properly, please seek out an experienced law firm.

If you'll be doing any work other than very high level executive/president type stuff you'll definitely need a work permit.

is a work permit even possible on a retirement visa? Would he have to change the visa type?

no, you have to change visa type. Generally only available on Non-B, non-O marriage and non-O volunteer

Even though I am not going to receive any salary, why is it a non-profit association?

as Phil said, even volunteering for no pay requires a work permit in Thailand. A husband picking up a napkin at his wife's restaurant can get him in trouble without a work permit
