Embassies incl. EU, US, Canada agreed with Thai Immigration that "Embassy letters" would no longer be needed for further visa extensions of their citizens.
This information was given in the context of Swiss citizens and is therefore not official for the other countries mentioned.
If an Immigration office still asks for such a letter from a Swiss citizen, the Swiss Embassy will provide it free of charge but exceptionally only if the same person already paid the Swiss Embassy for a previous letter. Usually, the Swiss Embassy charges a fee for such letters.
