What should I know about the in-person 90-day reporting process at Chiang Mai Immigration?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Last week, I received practical advice from a couple of members here, so I thought I would share my experience with my first in-person 90-day report at Chiang Mai Immigration. I hope this information helps anyone who may need it in the future.

You only need to pull up your car to the drive-thru window, submit a completed TM47, a TM30 issued by your landlord (if you are a tenant), and your passport. It's free of charge, and it only took me two minutes. I drove away with my passport and a receipt of notification.

Before going, I didn't have a TM47 form with me, so the officer gave me a blank TM47 during the first round and told me to drive out, fill in the form, and come back to the line. The 90-day report drive-thru at Chiang Mai Immigration Office has two windows: one for drivers in automobiles and another for applicants on foot.

You do understand that a drive-thru wont work at immigration offices in provinces with loads of expats. It would be like being stuck in traffic in the US going to work.

It works pretty well at Phuket, and you just need your passport... nothing else. And... there are much more expats at Phuket than in Chonburi or Chiang Mai.

Nonsense, there are more expats in Chonburi. The numbers sometime mentioned online about expats in Phuket is just bogus. There are three immigration offices in Chonburi province. How many do you have in Phuket?

I’ve never understood how they expect you to fill out your address in handwriting when it’s all in Thai 🤷🏻‍♂️ luckily I showed a kind lady at one of the desks the address on my phone and she filled it out for me.

Adam Dixon The TM47 is not in Thai only. At least not the TM47 at my immigration office.

I understand that. I mean like my street and soi address are only in Thai. I can try and copy it myself but I would make a mess of it

Please explain to me how you don't know your address? If you're staying in Thailand long term, having a bank account, buying stuff online, register for this and that, then you can't always copy and paste your address in Thai. Have you tried to paste your address in Google translate?

I don’t have a bank account. I’d love one but haven’t tried yet. I did 6 months on exempt and I’m now on ED. Planning on doing the DTV after this. If it’s still around.

To buy stuff online I just copy and paste once and it’s done. Not very difficult.

I tried in google translate once but I know it was wrong because the subdistrict came out different. It’s mainly the soi and street. I’ve only lived at this address just over a month and before that I was on a tourist island so everything was easy. It’s not that big of a deal because I’ll just get the people in the office to do it for me.
