Category: Workcation

Work Docs:

Freelance teacher portfolio with cover letter explaining what I do, where my students are sourced, how I get paid and approx monthly earnings, why I'm applying, and stated that I will not seek work locally in Thailand.

The portfolio included my TEFL cert, student roster, earnings spreadsheet, calendar schedule, 2 sample lesson plans with link to materials (3MB is too small to compress everything ), screenshots from my online classes, some teaching reviews, and WeChat communication from parents showing student retention and pre-paymemt for 10-20 classes side-by-side with the transfer pics from their account to mine.

Financial Docs:

3 mos of statements showing over 500k during all 3 months and a screenshot from the account. Included a short letter explaining the minimal activity on the account (savings, not daily use).

Location Docs:

Photos of my cxld Ed Visa and Vietnam entry stamp, vietnam visa, hotel reservation, and pic at the hotel

I am American and have been in Thailand for a while already. Most recently on an Ed Visa. Before that I had a Business Visa. Others previous to that. Though they did not look at every page of my passport, I'm sure it's evident in their system.

Pretty sure this is everything. Hopefully not forgetting anything.

Grats!

I applied May 21 in Ankara, Turkey and still waiting now on June 28.

I am so happy.

If I don't get my DTV from Ankara by July 1 (my trip), I will consider using Hanoi myself next time!!!!

wow, that would drive me insane waiting that long. Just waiting a week had me itching for a number of reasons. I hope it gets approved soon. But if not, Hanoi is a good bet.

Thank You for your helpful report ๐Ÿ‘

Congratulations ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight โœˆ๏ธ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

Thanks. Yeah, I have it on my phone for now. I need to find a place to print. My hotel doesn't seem to have that option. I already took care of the TDAC. Good reminder about the stamp.

Vietnam is a terrible place to apply because then you realize itโ€™s better than Thailand.

Anonymous participant 711 Hard disagree. I could never live here in Vietnam. Not my jam. Been itching to leave. But have to wait til Monday.

Just curious, what makes Vietnam a no-go for you? I'm still Team Thailand as long as I eventually get my DTV.

My background is Japan (6

yrs) and Thailand (3 months), so I kinda know the territory, but it's been friggin' 17 years since I visited Thailand!

very high humidity, it's generally very dirty, footpath obstacles everywhere, traffic is insane, people are constantly trying to sell you something or rip you off... lots of things. Some of the medications I take require a Rx here, whereas not so in Thailand. People seem friendlier overall in Thailand. Some people love Vietnam. I enjoyed the visit more when I was younger and on holiday and there are some positives. But I could never live here personally.

yeah Thailand so right theyโ€™re about to overthrow the Prime Minister, they canโ€™t get their marijuana law straight. They canโ€™t even like stick to anything. Back-and-forth back-and-forth on everything needs no progress. Enjoy the air pollution in the winter.

Anonymous participant 711 No place is perfect. If you like Vietnam, cool. It's not a good fit for me. All I know is TH is working out a hell of a lot better for me than the U.S. in its current f*ckery.

Iโ€™m a freelance writer looking to get the DTV but also have a TEFL and looking to do online teach, which company do you online teach for?

combination of platforms and parent referrals. Dialect Zone (China), Ai English(China), KUG (Korea)...I signed up for Cambly a year ago and the application still says pending haha. The real money is in referrals though because you don't have to give up a percentage and can charge more. Get one good Chinese client and they will tell everyone they know.

thank you!

Preply is popular with online DTV teachers, you can try there.

Hanoi is the best post to apply at the moment. If you have what they are looking for you should be fine. Solid application congratulations ๐Ÿ™

what? No adamant rant about he can't have a Thai bank account with money pouring in before during and after his DTV application and approval.
Felix ***************
Hey man! I also applied in Hanoi on Sunday but still in Pending Approval, around what time did you apply on Sunday? Thanks

@Felix **************
It was after my classes so I think 9 or 10pm. I received approval just before 7pm Friday, which I wasn't expecting since it's after normal work hours. So, maybe you'll get a response by Monday night? ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ

Can I know did you use Thai bank account or other country bank account?
Mercy *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Anonymous participant 684 for the 500k I used my U.S. bank. Thai bank is for my daily use, so I only showed them incoming payments on there as part of the portfolio.
Wannikea *********
@Mercy ********
incoming student payments to your Thai bank account?
Mercy *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Wannikea ********
yes. Most payments go to my Thai bank since I use it for daily life. I only showed 2 of the prepaid payments as an example.

@Mercy ********
