Morning guys,

I'm looking to apply for a Non-O visa to come to Thailand at the beginning of October.

This is just over 3 months away but I would like advice as I'm unsure regarding savings and criminal checks and the way obtaining a visa could be simple etc.

So....

1/

I have only just transferred 15,000 UK sterling into my Wise Savings account from my Wise Business account.

Should this be in my Thai bank account or is it OK to be in my Savings account.

And how long does it have to be in the account for. I have only just put the money in 2 days ago and concerned the visa will be refused.

2/

Do I need a criminal check and if so, which one as they go from basic to enhanced DBS Checks.

3/

When applying online, the form is asking for my flight details. To me this is a bit of a mess around as if you get knocked back on the visa you have surely lost that money for your flight?

I've been coming to Thailand for the last 16 years and the last time I came at the start of the year, Immigration pulled me aside and asked me what my business was on entering.

I explained that I'm married and have a baby son and they told me I will need a visa from now on, which I understand.

It just seems harder to enter now.

I would just like some feedback from the questions I have asked.

Keyboard warriors with animal and insect names who type away with just the 1 sock on will probably be ignored, unless you are helpful of course..

We are all here to help one another, so let's be nice 😊

The community responses advise transferring funds to a Thai bank account to meet visa financial requirements, clarify that criminal checks are typically not necessary for this visa type, and suggest providing only flight numbers rather than confirmed bookings.

“I have only just transferred 15,000 UK sterling into my Wise Savings account from my Wise Business account.

*** I would take the 15,000 GBP out of the WISE account NOW and transfer everything into your Thai bank savings account.

*** for the application to the 90-days visa you will be asked to upload three months of bank statements. Some embassies do not acknowledge money on a WISE account because WISE is not a bank. Be careful.

*** if you can’t comply with this 3-months requirement in time before you apply for the Non-Imm-O Family (married to a Thai wife) Visa, then I suggest you fly to Thailand on a 60-days single-entry tourist visa.

*** Because if you arrive on a tourist visa or a visa-exempt entry, you can apply on the Immigration for the “change of visa type” from the touristic entry to an initial 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa. The fee is 2000 Baht.

One of the requirements for this application is that a minimum of 400,000 THB must already sit in a Thai bank account in your sole name. No seasoning period is required at this point.

On Immigration you would need to prove your existing marriage with a fresh marriage registry printout from the local Amphur office, called Kor Ror 22 or 2 (whichever applies).

*** you will get the 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa issued for 14 days “under consideration”. After two weeks you pick up the visa stamp.

As soon as 30 days are left of the 90-days stay permit out of the Non-Imm-O Visa, you can apply for the “1-year extension of (the) temporary stay permit based on being married to a Thai wife”.

You will need the “bank letter of guarantee” which confirms that the 400,000 THB minimum deposit has been sitting in your account for a minimum of 2 months.

*** this is so far the steps to a 1-year Extension of Stay.

A police record check is NOT needed.

Greg Alexander Thank you Greg, much appreciated...Just so many people saying different things though and it doesn't help matters..Ideally, I want to stay for 6 months but I'm concerned regarding the DBS Check..and which check it is, either the basic or the enhanced is needed?

Lob Ze Arborist you do not need a police check if you apply for a 6-months multi-entry Tourist Visa, or for a 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa

And yes, wait until after 3 months before. If you're applying from overseas you now need hospital cover approved by the Thai immigration. Hospital cover is a must anyway. I did it a bit differently...got a 90 day non immigration visa, opened Thai account with the cash, applied for retirement after 2 months of money in bank...was welcomed with open arms...out of Thailand atm but getting health insurance before I come back even though I don't need it.

Bob Boulter hospital cover? Health insurance? . . For a Non-Imm-O Visa? It is NOT needed. This is NOT a requirement. Keep your wrong info to yourself. While it is recommended to have an insurance, it is NOT a mandatory requirement. It is only mandatory if you apply for the Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa

Just put the 400k/800k in you're Thai bank now. It's still yours but I just leave it in an investment account and forget about it.

Non-o based on marriage to a Thai requires around £11k as a final balance in your everyday Uk current bank account . You must upload the full pdf of the statement showing monthly outgoings such as gas/ electric/ council tax. You don’t need a background check. You MUST upload a copy of your marriage certificate

First don't apply until you are within 90 days of entering Thailand.

Which Non-O will you apply for? For the Non-O based on marriage you need to show 400k baht or equivalent, for retirement 800k or equivalent in your home bank assuming your applying in the UK. Once you enter Thailand you need to open a Thai bank account and deposit a minimum of 800k/400k depending on whether retirement or marriage, which must be in the account for 2 months before you apply for a 12 month extension of stay.

Wise isn't a bank so might not be accepted, you'll need to ask the consulate.

No criminal checks are required.

You can normally just provide flight numbers associated with the flight you propose to take.

Your bank account is fine. Just upload a three month bank statement showing the ending balance. I am not sure whether Wise statements are accepted. A police clearance certificate is not required for a Non O visa. Simply provide a travel itinerary with your intended flight numbers. No flight bookings need to be uploaded.

OP
Jan Kenneth Nesland Hi and thanks, apparently Wise is supposedly recognised as a bank now, hence why I have put the money from my business to a savings account with them.

If this is a problem, then I don't mind transferring to my Thai bank (account has been opened around 14 or 15 years now).

Thank you for informing me of no flight bookings not needing to be uploaded.
