I'm looking to move to Hua Hin Thailand via the 5 year DTV with my young son. Does anyone have any knowledge that they would like to share about taxes on earned remote income from non-Thai companies and/or non-Thai clients?
Answer summary
The discussion covers the tax implications for individuals moving to Hua Hin, Thailand on a 5-year DTV visa while earning remote income from non-Thai companies. Key points include the requirement of 180 days of tax residency for foreign-earned income to be taxable, the importance of understanding double taxation agreements, and recommendations to consult a qualified Thai tax attorney for accurate advice. Participants emphasize the need for proper tax compliance based on the laws of the income-generating country, and caution against relying on unqualified tax advisors.

As long as you pay your relevant taxes in the relevant country, Thailand isn't concerned.

Once you have completed the 180 days of tax residency, any remitted income is tax assessible. Then you need to look at double taxation agreements and other factors.

for peace of mind, I would do it if I were you. Just ensure you go to somebody well qualified in the area. When the Thai tax law changes were announced in November 2023 there was a lot of foreign financial advisors who jumped on the bandwagon to give tax advice. Strictly speaking, only a Thai can do this according to employment law. When I worked for a company in Thailand, all the foreigners were given tax advice by a company called Vialto. They would not be cheap, but they are global experts in this domain.
