DTV Workation, EU Citizen, remote business started few years ago.

5th May - I arrived to Hanoi

8th May - I applied for DTV for workation

13th May - status changed to pending approval

15th May - rejected (no reason given). I went to embassy and asked them personally, after she checked my document, she said - "Change an embassy". That was a bit ridiculous but I did what she said.

23rd May - I arrived to Vientiane (Laos)

24th May - I applied again

26th May - I was asked for an additional document which I provided but in better quality (passport bio page)

26th May after about 1 hour - status changed to pending approval

26th May after another 1 hour - I was invited for interview

5th June - Interview and visa approved.

Interview Question:

* What kind of plans do you have to spend time in Thailand?

* Show me account with your invoice payments

* Show me account where you have a balance over 500k

* Show me what do you do, examples of your work

Key tips:

* Dress well, be polite and elegant, very important thing in my opinion

* Take your laptop or print everything what you have provided

* Double check if your mobile apps are working to show your statements or bank balance

* Smile (yes, really), don't go there like you would go to jail, this helps in my opinion

I hope that will help other people.

As long as you have a bank account here and put in the 800k prior to your application then everything is good.. tips: the new application process and the renewing process more or less the same . Why this retirement visa hinder your favor.

How does the agent get around tm30's and tm47's.. the latter being 90-day reporting requirements.. and how do you provide copies of your passport pages to immigration.. since your passport will likely reflect entry into a country outside of Thailand and possible visa's pertaining to said country.. without their being visible proof of you re-entering Thailand.. which would be clear to them if they were motivated to check their system more closely.. I'm sure there are agents out there that know how to screw with the system.. but I'd be worried that immigration tighten up their processes at exactly the wrong time.. and i prejudiced my plans to live long term in Thailand!

this isn't a question about getting an extension when you're not in Thailand. They would come back for the extension. The question is just about not having an address to use for an extension application

The way i read it was that he doesn't want to come back to Thailand if his agent can do everything for him while he's living in another country 🤔

Ally S Inglish My post wasn't really about one thing or about one question- rather it was sort of a 'catch all' to get a feel for issues that might arise in a certain scenario that im looking at in the future .

If you already plan to return to Thailand annually around the time of your extension, then no problem keeping it alive. If you are using an agent, the address thing doesn't matter. That's the point of using an agent, they take care of everything.

But if you are already using an agent, there's also no reason to maintain your status in the interim and spend the money on that. When you are ready to return, just get the non-O visa from a Thai embassy and then when you get back to Thailand start using an agent again to pick up from where you left off.

For the money you’ll spend paying an agent to renew your visa while you aren’t using it you might as well just start the process over with your agent. Maybe they will give you a better deal. On the other hand, the government is threatening to start looking hard at all the non-B and non-O visas next year, so in 3 years it may become very expensive to get a non-O visa. Thailand is very excitedly engaging in the biggest sales prevention program ever, there may not be much of an economy here in 3 years.

Jonathan Seraphim Yeah I totally get that POV.. im thrilled to have escaped the cesspool USA when I did, and to have obtained my retirement visa, bank account, etc here in Thailand when I did.. with all of the unpredictable elements in the world, and in Thailand- I kinda just want to maintain what I have, and not roll the dice on what might, or might not be available to me if im outside of Thailand for two or three years.. All of this is just conceptual for me at this point; just wanted to get a feel for what the best course of action might be if I decided to spend significant time outside of Thailand .

If you choose to keep your visa, you must come back to Thailand for the renewal. But moreover you have to keep enough funds on your bank account and also must provide a updated TM30. When you leave for three years, you can better let your visa expire and in due time apply for a new visa. Since you already have a Thai bank account, that's very easy. But be sure to keep 5.000 to 10.000 baht on your bank account and make a transaction now and then, other wise it will be canceled. You should also keep your Thai simcard alive, because your bank account is linked to a Thai telephone number. If the bank would nevertheless freeze your account, you can go to the bank in person to make it active again without any problem. If needed, you can get a declaration of residence from Immigration, if the bank should ask for it.

Of course an agent could all do this for you, although I severely doubt that he can arrange you to stay outside Thailand for a renewal.

You cannot renew outside of Thailand that’s why they take your picture at immigration

Perhaps:

How about the LTR–P E–Visa « Wealthy Pensioner » if you have at least the minimum Annual Passive income?

Then, no need to even make Entry into Thailand for 10 years (full validity of LTR E–Visa PDF File)

a service on Immigration like the annual new 1-year extension of stay, needs you to be properly registered in the TM30 system of Immigration. . . if that answers your question if you can do the yearly application from outside of Thailand. But you can see and ask if an agent can override this requirement

Most definitely probably you need to come back to Thailand once a year depending on what kind of deal your agent has with the local office. But regardless of that you want to have an entry stamp into Thailand before your extension.
