Sorry if this is not completely on topic but has anyone ever moved freight from Los Angeles to Bangkok? I'm looking at shipping companies and there's so many options. I'm only looking to move about 1 pallet maybe 1.25m high. Any ballpark ideas how much that would cost if I drop it off at the depot/ port? I would appreciate any shipping company recs if possible, thank you :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about moving a pallet of freight from Los Angeles to Bangkok, asking for cost estimates and shipping company recommendations. The comments provide advice on avoiding shipping if possible, suggest finding a local Thai shipping company for better rates, and emphasize the importance of understanding Thai import regulations, including potential fees for releasing goods in Thailand. A specific shipping company, RL Logistix, is recommended for international relocation.

I'd try then anyway, I bet the freight for the pallet to their warehouse is probably pretty reasonable!

its my understanding we got no tariff charges because my brother in law picked the boxes up , showing thai ID/passport. i would have shipped more but i heard expats were getting charged so much it wasnt worth it. i had mostly sentimental stuff - photos, college and High School yearbooks. My wife had some clothes shipped. I had told her we were only getting on the plane with 1 suitcase each/1 carryon each. We also had the dog in a crate that was the most stressful part of moving here.

Be more concerned how the Ports Authority of Thailand and the Thai Import Agent will need / require in Thai Baht to release, and process your shipped pallet of whatever it is.

I’m assuming if I pay a shipping company they would deal with that?

จอนห์ พิวห์you can easily ship from LA with DHL, or UPS, but it’s extremelly expensive, but convenient if you can afford it and it takes only a few days for the package to arrive. I sometimes send books from LA to Bangkok

my Thai wife had the personal household shipped in her name. It cost from memory 10,000bt for the ports authority and 3,800bt for the import agent who were the exporting agents in the UK, and assigned the import agent in Thailand. Trust you'll be able to provide a Thai telephone number (and email, and address in Thailand for the personal household goods to be eventually delivered your address in Thailand) to your shipping company / exporter in the US for that number, and email address to be passed on to the import agent in Thailand. Make sure it's 'Door to Door shipping, also to include all delivery costs to your address in Thailand.
