Hi all!

Has anyone walked the Sadao/Dannok border crossing on foot recently? How far is the walk between the Thai and Malaysian immigration checkpoints?

I'm on a DTV visa and doing my 180 day reset this Saturday. Planning to drive down, park on the Thai side and walk across without a vehicle. Just want to know roughly how far the walk is between the two immigration buildings and how long it takes on foot.

Has anyone done this?
Answer summary
The walk between the Thai and Malaysian immigration checkpoints at the Sadao/Dannok border is roughly 50 meters. Travelers have recently reported that the crossing can be quick and straightforward, but some have encountered a 2000 THB fee for same-day re-entries when resetting their DTV visas. The Wang Prachan border crossing is also recommended as a quieter alternative with fewer hassles.

i know this aera very well, my wife comes from satun. i advise you to go wang prachan border crossing. It is not far from Sadao Border. It is fast, easy and very very quiet. Just be prepared to pay 2000 THB fee if you do not spend the night in Malaysia.

great! And it’s okay to cross and come back the same day if I pay the 2000 THB like you said?

There's a small parking lot on the right, 20 meters from the checkpoint. Then walk 50 meters to the Malaysian checkpoint, they'll stamp your passport, and head back.

A small additional bit of info: Sadao crossing is a huge border with lots of people. Wang Prachan border is very, very small with almost nobody. The last two times I went there, there were just a few Malaysians on a road trip crossing with their motorbikes — and me, the only farang (foreigner) ^^

Yes, they're very chill there and unlikely to give you any trouble or ask many questions. But they did ask me for a 2000 THB fee because I told them I was just there to reset my DTV and wouldn't be spending the night in Malaysia. Their response was that there's a "new rule": if you come back the same day, you have to pay a fee. I suspect it's tea money, of course, but I didn't want to make a fuss about it. For info, I've been resetting my visa here for many years and never had to pay before — but back then I had a Non-O visa, not a DTV.

If you know when the border crossings moved to another location, I did it in 2005 and walked 2 minutes for 1 side to another.
